1988 Toronado Parts

Hello ARCStig: Welcome to the site. Your post has little information as it is. It would help for sure for a location. Pictures of the parts you want would also help. Do you need a specific color of the dash trim or are you just looking for instruments? Do you have an idea of what the parts are worth to you? This also relates to your location for the cost of shipping, especially if you are out of the USA. Anyway some more details might help you find your parts. If you find someone parting a 88 Toro is there anything else on your wanted list? This is a great resource for parts and information. Good luck with your search. Trent in Los Angeles.

Thanks for the welcome!. As far as interior color, it is red. I have actually located a place to repair my original instrument cluster, so I don't need that anymore, but I may need a bezel? I will work on getting pictures of the parts I would like to acquire. As for more details on what I need the radio is an AM/FM/EQ/Cassette unit., and the climate control piece I believe I need is the part with all the buttons on it. It seems to be stuck in Defrost mode, and will not accept any commands. I may be able to get the radio repaired, but if someone has one to sell I would be interested in getting a price, and If someone knows of a place to repair the climate control, I'd be interested in that also, if there's not one for sale.

1988 Toronado Parts

Hi ARCStig: Glad you have made progress and have included photos. I see a problem with buying a part from a collector that either had this on the shelf for years or found it in the junk yard and does not know the current condition or have a way to test it. Mechanical stuff is easy to test and understand the condition. This is a good place to find suggestions and I wish you well. I am the editor of the Toronado - Aurora Times that is a chapter of the Oldsmobile Club of America (OCA). It was started in 1985 and we keep on chuggin'. Do you happen to be a member of OCA? Regards, Trent in Los Angeles

I am not a member. This is my first ever Oldsmobile, I bought it for my Fiancé, since she needed a car. I usually stick to Buick, but I look forward to enjoying this car with my Fiancé for many years* I'm hoping that parts will not be too difficult to locate.*

1988 Toronado Parts

Hi ARCStig: Oldsmobile made a lot of great cars and trucks for all different markets. There are many still around and can be a bargain for the right deal. I like the full size cars like the last generation 88/98, some have overdrives and the detuned 307 V8 which gives 20 MPG on the road for a big comfortable car. You might guess I know what a Vista Cruiser is, they are very nice wagons that can do a lot of diverse jobs. They have increased in popularity in the last 10 years. The engine in your Toro is one of the best V6's made by GM back in the day. Hard to know how long the current ones will last. They 3800 or 3.8 V6 can go 300,000 - 500,000 miles and more. Keep the oil changed. You will likely need a few things like a new harmonic balancer around 200,000 to keep it going. They are many how to videos on car repairs along with most anything else on youtube. I wish you well with your first Olds!! Regards, Trent in Los Angeles.

I prefer full size cars also, I have a 1993 Buick Roadmaster Limited Sedan with 295,000 miles on it, and a 1997 Buick Park Avenue Ultra with a 3800 Series II SUPERCHARGED, which is currently broken, but it was intended to be a project anyways. I bought the Toronado for my Fiancé because she doesn't*care to drive the full size cars I have.*

Hi ARCStig: Yes, those Roadmasters are nice. I know several people with wagons. I like the 90's Buick LeSabres and Park Avenues, they really have a nice style, 3800's, and are comfortable cars. They can also get great MPG, my buddy reported 34 MPG without air along a long trip from Florida to Maryland in his 94 LeSabre. Plus there are a lot around for parts. You might should post how much you are willing to pay for your wanted parts. They need to be packed well for the trip. Regards, Trent in Los Angeles.

Did you at least give her an engagement ring?

Remember what Dr. Laura says. An engagement isn't an engagement until there's a ring and a date. Otherwise, you're just going steady.

Pro golfer Dustin Johnson and Paulina Gretzky have been "engaged" since 2013, and they still haven't set a date let alone gotten married.
