Looking for a switch-pitch (aka variable pitch) torque converter for a '65 Jetaway aka Junkaway aka Super Turbine 300 transmission. A core is fine and dandy, especially if near Cleveland O-H-I-O.

 

If you don't find one closer I've got several out in Oregon. But shipping may be as much as the purchase price! Just sharing this so you know as a back-up I've got one.

You might consider checking FATSCO for a rebuilt unit. Google is your friend or @ least that's what they say.

 

X2 on Fatsco. I got a rebuilt switch pitch for my 67 Delta from them last fall. They do this as exchange, so you may have a problem, or at least a core charge, if you don't have one now.

What's wrong with Dacco-Detroit. Most trans shops on east coast use them. Switch pitch converters are $100 or so. Both 300 and 400 sizes. How much are Fatsco's?

Hi, chiming in for any subject matter expert with these 300's that may have a clue where they may leak from? I restored switch pitch with a B&M switch armed on the throttle shaft to go off as the 4 bbl opens, Quite a kick from that baby! Anyway, I can't identify the leak source but have eliminated the pan gasket. Shops snort and giggle at it and say "you outta put a 350 in it". If they only knew the switch-pitch happiness. They pretty much say service isn't worthy. Seeing others keeping them alive makes me wonder. Are they worthy??

 

Open your CSM to Chapter 7 and look at the exploded view of the ST300. Every gasket, seal, and plug is a possible leak source. That's not to be a smartass answer, just the truth. That doesn't count porosity of the case, by the way.

Yikes, and reassuring (sort of). Hoping for the "it's the fill stick o-ring as common". I have laid under that car staring at the bugger after a good rag down where she was sanitary. After a few minutes fluid appears in the rear pan seal and seems like it's the pan. Been there twice first a new rubber gasket and checked the tin for dished bolt holes. Same annoying slow leak followed by the black Permatex super space gasket goo. (The spendy right stuff). Nope, still a Leaky Pete. I've read others plagued by leaking with these as well. Thanks Joe. (back to the 350)

 

I've found a torque converter locally. Oh, and my tranny leaked in many of those places!

 

Just curious, you said you'd take a core. Were you going to get it refurbished and if so where? I'm near Warren, OH and I'm considering having an S/P converter looked at. Thanks

 

Well guess they are prone to combo leaks then. Doh!

 

A local shop, Parma Transmission, cuts it open, rebuilds, and welds 'er closed.
