Unhappy WTB automatic floor shifter handle, 71 cutlass (and other years

Not my car... AM getting it going for a good friend's now widowed sister in law. IT MIGHT become my car... we'll see. So I am strong but not some behemoth, and I generally don't have steel bars snapping off in my hands, but that is what happened here when the cable hung up on something and I pushed a bit too hard shove it forward into park.

It had to have been previously compromised. Anyway. I need a replacement asap.

It's a 71 Cutlass Convertible with the automatic floor console 3speed shifter, cable actuated reverse/park. thanks!

It's not uncommon for them to be cracked right in that area after 45 years of use. I don't have any right now but I'm sure someone will speak up shortly.

Yeah there is a seam there where the original piece was cast *(?) or other wise fused together. I am not near the car right now -- it felt like mild steel to me and not aluminum. Anyone know for sure? If steel, I could weld it and maybe fit a strength plate to one side if there is enough clearance.

If I remember right it is chromed pot metal. I have seen people take a small piece of metal and make a Band-Aid or strap with a couple screws. Kind of crude but it might work.

Hi, i am in Arcadia and should have one, will check tomorrow. I believe it would be the entire shifter, bracket etc. Never tried to take the assembly apart. Is that what you need?

Hi Eric: In that I don't really know what caused this f'er to snap (like is it a seized cable or the ratchet is busted or..? Maybe replacing the whole assembly would be a wise play (at least to get it so it can be moved around... ) Message me with a price you'd like for that (assuming it is use-able as is?) thanks
