Unhappy WTB Driveshaft for 71 442 and wire harness

Need one complete driveshaft for 1971 442 W30 (455 of course) with 400 automatic. 32 spline. Like the idiot I am I tossed mine out when we took our salvage metal to the recyclers. Yes, also tossed out the radiator. Brilliant. Putting the car back together now and need the driveshaft. Bought a new radiator. Also need both engine bay wire harnesses that plug into the firewall - internal regulator. Have a harness from the donor car but it is external regulator. Also tried to fit a driveshaft from our 72 350 442 donor car but it is too long and of course also has the wrong yokes. Canton, Georgia. Richard at acaceca@aol.com

American autowire or MH can get you a new harness

places like the partsplace and im sure others like fusicks can get you a new driveshaft.

be aware automatic cars had a 2 piece driveshaft w the tubes joined w rubber, many have found that rubber union has deteriorated over the years. Dennys driveshaft or a place like fleetpride can ,make you one as well.

Likely could source you an original driveshaft. Friend is clearing out his shop, he parted three or four big block 455 cars. There are outfits (damper doctor etc) that can “redo” the rubber.

newmexguy - ok - all I need is one to fill in the void - doesn't have to be pretty or mechanically sound.

Did 455 auto 4V cars have the “rubber” as well? Was a topic of discussion yesterday between a friend of mine yesterday (who has parted several of these cars) and myself. Would seem illogical to have had a shaft that could destroy itself with a higher level performance car, aka 442 with top engine. Guessing the handful of stick cars would have had a “one piece” shaft.

I dont know that for sure. AFAIK automatic cars got the 2 piece. I still have the oe 2 piece in my car original 350 now 455 w no issues, but i do have a 1 piece for a spare.

I suspect most failures are realized w sticky tires.

Just looked at another 71 442 automatic that we have had for a long time and it has a one piece shaft - never knew about the 2 piece

Scott - Right - thanks for the offer but this car is a huge project - and will still be a project when I am done with it. ($$$ spent already - trying to save a few bucks for my old age, which began 30 years ago)

I sent it to original poster. See you are from Jacksonville. I was entered in the Gator Nationals, but withdrew and came back home on Thursday, way too much rain.

Driveshafts are measured from the center of one u-joint to the center of the other.

dc2x4drvr - as rocketman stated, shafts are measured from center to center of the ujoints - to be sure, is this the measurement you are using or are you measuring just the shaft length as stated - thanks
