WTB 1970 4 core radiator
#6
Chris, I have a 1971 flat top wagon with heavy duty cooling. It has the correct 4 row radiator for the 442 and maybe the W30 of that year. So if you have access to a Vista with the 4 row I think it would be worth checking the codes.

i have one of the 70 4 core tanks, IC i belive and a 70 chevelle opposite harrisson tank with the larger 2 inch bottom for 70, not sure on the code, will chk and get you pics if you want to go that way. i was going to use these units for my 70 442 untill i found the correct rad . i think johns' 71 will have the smaller outlet but you can use it with a 71 waterpump.

I have the larger outlet on the bottom since I have the 404837 X water pump (2 in bottom). I would be interested in your radiator. Can you send me pics and price?

Radiator rebuilder
A rebuilder with good tanks is really waht I'm looking for, easier to ship and cost me less. Unless I can get a full radiaotr at a reasonable cost.

"IF" and "CH"
I believe the correct radiator for your car is the "ED" rad code tag. Which has the "IF" code on the driver side, and the "CH" code on the passenger side. All 4 core radiators have the "IF" code on the driver side or nothing at all. The passenger side generally signifies the application. It is possible "EC" rad code tag was used but given you have AC which means you had 3:23 gears numerically or lower the "ED" tag type rad was used. I may have one available. By the way the "EC" rad tag tanks are "IF" for the driver side and "CI" for the passenger side. Hope this helps.

The Last one I had done cost me about $450 I think. That was Canadian dollars so I suspect it would be cheaper in the U.S. The shops get the scrap copper value so that should give you about $35 credit. It they are not passing it on then you can save by removing the tanks, less work for them also, As they just re-soldier a new core to the tanks. I think that would be a better way to go all round as most shops are not going to give you credit for the scrap core value.

I have yet to see one come up for sale in a public forum, ebay etc. They are very hard to find, especially with the "EC" rad tag still attached. Finding one in a wrecking yard is not going to happen, and the guy who would have one would need it for his own car or future project. I would say at least $250 for a core. The Parts Place sell's repro's for about $700.
