Wanted: oil filter drain screw – 350 Diesel

I'm looking for a plastic water or air bleed screw from a 350 Diesel.

The end of the screw should be conical.

I need this for my 1990 diesel truck, Which has the rectangular cartridge filter with a base that's different from the original, according to the parts guy, who sold me the wrong screw for $26, which I then proceeded to break.

The GMC parts guy doesn't show any earlier versions of the screw, so it must've been superseded, But my manual shows a "early version" with a conical and instead of a pencil eraser seal, which I think is the same as the 350 diesel screw.

Please forgive any typographical errors. I am dictating this while I drive.

26 bucks for a drain plug

might be easier to try and find one at the scrap yard?

It might, but none of them have any diesels, and none of the auto parts stores list the part.

Also can't get a GM part number for it.

I also called a couple of local guys who work on trucks, but they don't have any either.

The Internet shout out is my lady resort (though I'm planning to make one tomorrow).

ps: the counter guy gave me a break - GMPartsDirect says list is over $29.

It's #7 in the picture, but with a pointy end instead:

The catalog show #15535678. Is that what he gave you? There was an earlier number (15596612). One dealer shows one, DeNooyer Chev in Michigan. Didn't see a toll free # but if you want to call and have him describe it to you, it's (616) 396-2333.

Thanks, yes, that's the number that doesn't work, and that's the superseded number.

The problem seems to be that this is a fleet vehicle, and the base (#11 in the picture) is set up for a remote water bleed, with the lower (water bleed) screw location blanked, and a hose from the barb to a remote (easier to reach) valve.
This is not the filter base that's "supposed" to be there, so presumably it was installed at a dealer or a depot when the group of trucks purchased was given their final fitting out.
Since the screw that's "supposed" to fit doesn't, I am ASSuming that the base plates they used had been on the shelf a while, and use the earlier (superseded) screw (which my dealer's computer didn't show).

Tomorrow I plan to use the "pencil eraser" seal from the broken screw with a new steel screw, and if that works ill probably leave it at that, but if not, I'll give that dealer a call.

Eric, does your pointy tip bugger look like the ones in the pic? If so you may have to get it from a Stanadyne diesel supplier.

Update:

I checked with my local Stanadyne dealer, spent over half an hour on the phone with him (nice guy), he pulled some ancient stuff off the shelf, but none of it was right.

I fixed the problem by plugging the screw hole with a bolt and rubber washer, which did not close the flow the hose barb, so I capped it with a stub of hose and a screw.

I've got the broken part as a template, and I'll turn one down in brass next time I have a chance to use my father's lathe.

If I ever find the right part, I'll post it up here for all to see.

Thanks for the help.
