Wanted - Alternator (1100890) for 1970 442 W30

Hi, I'm looking for an original alternator for my '70 442 W30 (Auto & A/C model) - Delco Remy number is 1100890 . Unfortunately my car has had a replacement from the late '80s installed and I'd ideally like to put an original period alternator back on (this is the built in regulator type). I'm in Australia but I'd only need to get it to Portland OR. Please let me know if you can help. Thanks so much.

These are very hard to find and expensive. Also be aware of the potential of a re-stamp. If you do find one make sure it has the right back on it. There are open faced alternators on ebay that don't have the correct back. You may already know, but just in case you don't I'll look for a photo that shows the correct back for the alternator you need. John

Thanks John, appreciate the photos & info. My W30 has at some stage in its life had the alternator replaced with an '80s Delco Remy Chev alternator so I can live with that temporarily till an original eventually turns up. But I'll just need to keep an eye on eBay etc till I find one.
Cheers
Rohan

another option is to find an open-face alternator that isn't date correct. Sometimes you can find those cheaper ($100 - $300 US) not many will notice the difference in the back or look at the date codes. I do think the open-face alternator is a nice addition as the front is very noticeable when looking at the engine bay.

My alternator crapped out so I got one of these. Not really a restoration piece because it has the wrong back as discussed but looks nice when I open the hood. Also, it's priced accordingly as well. It basically costs what a good quality parts house replacement does.

Good suggestion. I've seen them on eBay and I'll head that way if I don't find the correct one before I get to the point of needing the alternator back on in a few months time. Currently restoring the chassis & drive train so if nothing comes up as I approach that point then thats the way I'll go. Thanks.

Did they get you one in a reasonable amount of time as well? I only ask as they were once listing a matching number 70 starter for what I thought was a reasonable price (still a lot though). When I contacted them they confirmed. I said I'm in the neighborhood I'll stop right by. Funny enough they suddenly didn't have it. But if you got that alternator from them I think it would be a worth while for others on the site to know of them as a resource. I'm fortunate I have matching number alternators for my cars but if I or someone else needs another one this would be a very reasonable solution

I picked up one of the eBay open face alternators as a back up for my drivers. Haven't tested it out but it looks ok for the local cruise nights as only a hard core Olds guy would know the difference.

I have a source for both versions (69)/(70) raised fin back shells... Not inexpensive, $500, but a great way to bring an open face to the next level in case you decide to go that route. Good luck and happy hunting!

I saw that one last night and thought that would be nice !!!!! Paying those sort of dollars for an unrestored unit isn't worth it if the dates don't match and my car is an earlier build. To be honest I thought that $800 to maybe $1000 was about where the price should be. Will be interesting to see if that one actually sells.

This is the same alternator for a Corvette as well, I'm sure that is another reason for the high price.
