If you need some of the parts off this Cutlass that would be expensive to ship I might be able to meet you in Pigeon Forge,TN some weekend. I could set you up with a two night stay for free if you would be willing to attend a timeshare presentation. I have done this in the past and it worked out very well. They provide a nice place to stay and usually kick in some other perks like meals or show tickets.

Thanks guys.

I've picked up a few parts in the last couple of weeks but I am still in need of a lot of parts that are either show quality or can be restored to show quality.

Here's an extensive list of parts that I am looking to replace since the ones I have are not restoreable (keep in mind that if you need any of these things in "driver" condition, most of them are for sale)

rear quarter chrome molding- attaches to qtr extensions
front hood molding 2 pieces
front fender emblems
trunk emblem
SX fender emblems

I am in Southeast Ohio

Dan--Since I sell this item I'll start with it...The Gas Tank Pad Insulator. See my ad on this link for pics, details, etc.

https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...tion-item.html

There are some of these items you are better off getting via the repro parts vendors...for example--the '70 Gas Tank Vent--The Parts Place repros this part at a cost in the $25-30 range I think. It's brand new white plastic like the originals and all the used ones out there are yellowed, etc. Fits like original, looks exactly like the original, etc so there's no need to go pay some ridiculous price for a NOS one if you happen to find it.

As far as new Gas Tanks..I would recommend RockAuto.com. They sell the SAME SPECTRA PREMIUM NAME BRAND that the other vendors do (this is the only tank you should purchase..it's the good Canadian made reproduction tank) and they have GREAT PRICES and VERY REASONABLE SHIPPING CHARGES (something that can't be said about one of the biggest tank resellers out there).

A lot of those small items should be bought from one of the good Olds repro parts vendors...things like the Gas Tank Vent, the Black Plastic Wire Harness Straps that go on the D side fenderwell, etc. If you want someone to go through your list and make recommendations on which stuff to by new repro I'd be happy to do it. You'll probably end up with a sizeable order and may be able to get a slight discount or XMAS deal at one of the vendors right now anyway.

I will go thru your list and see what else I have...

Off hand, I think I may have a restored rear license plate frame...all parts freshly restored so let me know if you are still looking for that also.

Thanks and let me know of the Gas Tank Pad.

Thanks Patton.

I'll PM you on the gas tank pad.

As for the other parts, I realize I will be better off buying most of the parts through a repro place like you mentioned. I just thought I would post the list just in case someone had an NOS or NORS or repro part that they weren't using.

I appreciate all the help that people have given on this forum.

Thanks---true on the repro stuff and the NOS stuff is out of sight if you happen to run across any of it.

I pm'd you back.

>One item to "beware" of is the inside chrome window cranks. The repro one's I tried to install on a recent resto were so great that you turned the crank about one turn and then they became dis-engaged from the splines on the window regulator shaft. They didn't strip out...they just wouldn't stay on fully. Gm still make these but they cost more than repro and have a black **** instead of the "clear" **** like the originals. You can buy the "clear/grey" ***** at any auto parts store in the "Needa?" brand line or "Help" brand line. Replace the black ***** on the good GM cranks with these and you have a crank that actually works and has much better/crisper/original looking lines/detail than the repro cranks. Definitely more cost but it's an alternative....I'll dig up the current GM part number for those cranks with the black *****.

>Outside door handles...get yours rechromed if you can afford it AND if they are good unpitted/unbubbled cores. The repro sets aren't made to the correct profile of the door skin....they "work" but they aren't close to the quality/fit of the original GM stuff.

>I may also have a complete battery cable tube set up here (70-72 auto trans style...different from the manual trans battery cable tube and brackets)...replated metal parts and a nice clean original tube..not NOS...but nice used which I prefer over a lot of repro stuff these days.

>No tailight heat deflectors used in '70 that I'm aware of...this was used on the horizontally oriented 71/2 housings I think.

I'll keep gazing at your list and see what I may have. Thanks

Thanks again Patton,

Definitely interested in the parts you have.

Thanks for the advice on the repro stuff. And, the "no taillight heat deflectors used in '70" explains why I couldn't find any on mine. I just kept seeing them advertised for 70-72 and I thought I was missing mine.

Thanks again,

Dan

Dan--Some of the repro vendors will advertise items for our cars...that the cars NEVER used. There's not A LOT of items advertised like this fortunately but there are some.

A lot of vendors sell a foam seal that is supposed to go between the metal firewall heater blower box and the firewall(Non-AC cars)...I've never seen a foam seal on any of the Oldsmobiles and I have seen A LOT of them(original cars). It may be a nice item to have but if you are going for originality, it's not needed.

That's just an example and at the larger vendors you will quickly get the idea that the person on the other end of the phone line just might not know too many details about these particular cars. Fusick Automotive is "Olds-only" so their advice is usually more reliable and they've been doing this stuff a lot longer than most of the large places.

Well--they are in the business to sell parts so I guess they are doing their job at least.

Thanks.
