Wanted - 1961 Full size A/C vents
Wanted - 1961 Full size A/C vents
Yes, I'm looking to put Vintage Air on my 61 and would like the factory A/C vents on the corners of the dash. I have the Starfire center console also so if someone had the vent for that it would be great! Thank you.
You're trying to find something that was uncommon even when the 1961 cars were new. Factory airconditioning was a $430 option. To put in perspective, Ninety Eight's base price was in the $4050 range, so A/C was 10% of a Ninety Eight's cost. For a D88 Holiday coupe base price $2950, it was 15%. Not many people sprang for it.
A Ninety Eight from TX, CA or the southwest will be your most likely source.
The fact that Pat wasn't sure on his outlets should tell you that even hardcore Oldsmobile people often haven't seen early 1960s factory air dash pieces.
Good luck. Someone somewhere will have them.

There was a reason that a/c was so expensive "back in the day". When I worked at an Olds dealership, one of the older mechanics told me that air conditioning was NOT a factory installed option. All of the parts, including new front coil springs, came in the trunk of the car and the mechanics got paid 24 hrs. to install it.
TTT I may be chopping up some 62 deash vents if I dont find the correct ones. Thanks to everyone here who has responded. I learn something new every time i post on here.
