Power steering box
Cracked the lid? Am trying to picture how that might have happened. Gorilla Mechanic?
If the rest of the cast iron housing is fine, I would rebuild what you have. It is only original once. Believe the Julian date is on the housing, itself. There are several rebuilders out there, and also some smaller individuals and companies. A guy on the Buick site rebuilds Saginaw power boxes he should have parts to fix yours one would think. Guys name is Hector Carillo, aka "car hex". His reviews seem to be good. I have had several boxes rebuilt at Benchworks steering systems in Scottsdale or Phoenix. No problems, good turn around. Benchworks should also have numerous parts. And of course there are the "biggie" rebuilders and suppliers - Lares, Lee, etc. Not sure if all of them are still around.
