Hi all, new to the forum so id like to thank everyone for any help they provide.
I recently bought a 1979 Cutlass Cruiser Brougham and found the rear trunk lock cylinder was broken beyond repair. Im looking to replace it yet i'm unable to find the exact part I need. The standard GM lock cylinder that everyone sells isnt even big enough to completely fill the hole cut into the trunk gate when removed. (I purchased item 555-18040 from Jegs and found it wouldnt fit whatsoever) If anyone could direct me to a source to find the correct cylinder it would be much appreciated. Below are pictures of the car and original lock cylinder i removed.
The only explanation I can come up with is that either its a very rare part GM hasnt produced in a long time (unlikely) or I decoded the VIN incorrectly and have myself on a wild goose chase, so I have included the VIN if anyone wants to double check my work.

Your VIN is not valid. It's mostly OK, and the problem likely has no bearing on your part-finding problem..

492807 = production sequence number.
The incorrect character indicates the plant where assembled, and the number zero indicates Pontiac, Michigan assembly plant, but only GMC trucks were built there,
It can't be the letter O because that letter was not used. Probably so as not to be confused with the number zero.

I'm guessing that character is either a C for South Gate or a G for Framingham. The cowl tag will also tell you the assembly plant.
All the A/G wagons should have the same tail gate, hence the same rear lock cylinder. They used to be everywhere, most were crushed. Remember buying an '82 Malibu wagon say fifteen years ago for a song - like $200-300 dollars. Virtually rust free. But at the time had no extra funds, so down the road it went.
You might try the known "G" body suppliers. Mikes Montes. Dixie. G body parts, maybe even OPGI. Ausleys' bought a large NOS/dealer stash a few years back, quite a bit of it was post '72 stuff from what I've heard.
