So chances are then the gentleman who is selling the 70 442 W30 convertible may have the real deal since it may be one out of 168 TH400 automatic convertibles made?

One must consider the passing of time and attrition in the probability of finding said trans so chances are much lower than that.

No, not even close. The probabilities do not verify an original transmission.

I could only imagine getting hounded by someone if I had a non-matching trans that would have come out of a vehicle he has. The entire community would brand you a dick if you didn't sell, OR you'd be branded a dick if you didn't give him a good deal, and THEN it would be on you to source a replacement trans for your car which now has no trans. I guess you could say "find me a replacement OW trans" but some people would think you're probably a dick for that, too. I hope it's just on a rack or something and sellable.

As I said Im guessing its a long shot but you never know. If it pops up great if not nothing ventured nothing gained. If I had someones piece I would not have a problem getting it back to them if it made a difference... Of course I would need something comparable in return... My car is a broadcast card documented original w machine so to me it would make a difference... What are you hiding Koda??? haha

I should mention there are alot of scammers out there and like to make reproduction parts and try to pass them off as the original thing... This is why I am hesitant to post the last 6 of my VIN.

I could see all that... I would tell them I want another real OW rebuilt by MY transmission guy and then I would cover swapping it out. If I did not get a real OW I would be the butt hole wanting a pile of money for it. Figure an OW core is between $1000 and $1200 then a rebuild is $1000 and the time finding one. I would be the butt hole wanting $3000 if I was not getting a replacement for my car. On the other hand, If I found the original to my car in another show car, I would gladly pay $3000 to get it.

I agree w/ you Jensen... I do not think what you wrote would make you an a'hole @ all... The only a'holes are the ones who restamp these parts and pass them off as originals... Those people are the ones who ruin people passion for this hobby!
