Need Hood Hinge Springs...GM # 574802

59-64 Olds excluding F-85
67 Olds excl. F-85 or Toranado
68 Olds excl. Toranado

If anyone has any additional vehicle application information about this part OR, any other helpful info. I'd be most glad to hear about it !!!...

I have a Hollanders interchange application book out in the garage. I think those fit a number of GM cars----I think I have some.

 

If indeed there is a Hollanders part number which is a direct identical GM replacement for a GM part #574802 I would be most glad to have this info. so that can verify it...

And should you have the springs, I'd be glad to hear more about them...What I need are new or used GM replacement springs...Not some aftermarket reproductions which may not have the correct fit and/or quality...

pretty busy and haven't even been in the garage this week but will check when I get out there-----seems to me if the hinges are the same the springs would also be the same even if not listed separately.

 

I have a set of complete hood hinges with the springs. 68 cutlass

 

Just as soon as you can get the information I will be glad to have it...

I checked the book today and it is a 68 only item and dosen't list the springs separate. Only fits Olds---all of them.

 

It appears that this seems true for 1968 Olds Hood Hinges, except possibly
the '68 Olds Toranado...Have read the thread in the "General Discussion" forum > titled:"Do They Fit"...This thread seems to suggest that '68 CUtlass hood hinges could possibly be slightly modified to fit in to a '68 Toranado...Some of the thread comments say "Yes"...Some say "No"...


Would also appreciate knowing if there is in fact an actual physical difference in both the springs and/or the hood hinges for the '68 Cutlass and '68 Toranado...We all know that different part numbers do not necessarily mean that there is any actual difference...

I would appreciate a definitive answer on these issues from somebody with first-hand experience...This would be most helpful...

Like I said the Hollander book says 68 hinges fit every model of Olds that year including the Toronado, Big Olds, F-85.......It list no interchange with any other car of any year. 68 only.

In those days they would also sometimes say that wrecking yards say another item from another car will work----like they didn't know. But in this case it says 68 Olds only period.

 

well i got an extra set of hinges with the springs when i got the car. i can see if there is a number on the hinge. I was told they were off a 68 vista cruiser. the guy was gonna change them because apparently they open higher than the cutlass hinges.

As a result of conversation I had today with a GM specialist at Hollander, it appears that all 1968 hood hinges can be used with any '68 Olds...But, do be advised that some modification to the hinge bolt holes will likely be necessary, depending on the model the hinges came from, and into which model vehicle they are going, especially those bolt holes which align with the hood...

And know also, that different springs were used depending on the weight of the hood for that particular Olds model...

Dreamcar41, as regards your hinges, I would appreciate a part # taken directly from your Vista Cruiser hinges and, some detailed photos would be very helpful to confirm this information...

well i cant seem to find a number on them. I held them up to my 68 hinges and they are not even close. sorry man. Scrap!

 

DO YOU NEED A SET OF HINGES FROM A 68 OLDS 98 - DELTA -DELMONT ? IF SO I'M PARTING A 68 DELTA OUT AND GOT NICE SET OF HINGES ON IT .

PS: I believe the '68 Delmont - Delta is a variation of the Olds 88 ???...

 

I LOOKED AND COULD NOT FIND ANY NUMBERS ON THE HINGES , THEY ARE ORIGINAL AND STILL ON THE 68 DELTA . ANY IDEA WHERE THE NUMBERS ARE LOCATED ?

Not sure where they would be...Suppose its possible they were somehow rubbed off...Would appreciate some good detailed photos of both Hinges and Springs...
