Hi, As I stated I’m looking for a used POA valve and possibly a expansion valve for a 1973 Olds 98. The one on my car doesn’t work and it’s a aftermarket one so I’m looking to get a nice correct one and send it in to get rebuilt.
Let me know what you have with price and pics
[QUOTE=rocketraider;1448295]As you see both parts cover a lot of applications. Might make a search easier. Don't discount B-body Chevrolet, Pontiac and Buick for a source.
I do find it strange that the Cutlass and the cavernous big wagons share the part number.

yes that is hard to believe that’s a lot more room to cool than a cutlass. I keep hearing there are 3 different styles not sure the differences between the 3
Greg, I hope you find one. Be aware that if you buy one and have it rebuilt you'll need to recharge the AC with R12 (unless you can have it calibrated for R134a).

Thanks for the heads up I wouldn’t use anything but R 12 works too dam good lol

The difference in the size of the vehicles is made up in the evaporator. I got one out of big Buick and installed it in my C-20 Chevy 2-dr pick-up (Olds powered of course) and you could hang meat in that cab on a 90 degree day.

There were apparently two different "conventional" type POA valves and I believe that '73 is when they introduced the VIR (valves in receiver) system.

oh that is true they started that VIR later in 73 forgot that
Also referred to as "2nd type". Only on A and E car and big wagons starting mid 73. Then they all got the accursed thing in 74.
The VIR could be rebuilt, but the system stayed open to atmosphere longer if you rebuilt the individual pieces of it. Most people just replaced the whole assembly with a rebuild which cut down vacuuming time considerably.
I've had both POA and VIR systems plus the orifice tube type. Orifice tube has always been the simplest to service to me, but that R4 compressor left something to be desired.
Back to your original request. So, you're looking for the early type "external" POA and expansion valves? I have numerous used ones, as well as evaporators. Email me to discuss: drolds1@bellsouth.net. Thanks, Bob.
