Looking for a 4bbl Carb, St. Louis, MO

Hello, I am in need for a mjor carb rebuild and performance upgrade.

I have restored a 71 cutlass sx, 455, and everything seems to be running smoothly but I am not getting any power out of my carb. If I am driving down the road and step on the gas, to the floor, i get a little more speed\power, but when my foot hits the floor she bogs, and I mean bad, I can drop from 3000 rpm, to 2500 and lower, depending on how long I hold my foot to the floor. But If I let up, she gains power and were are doing 3800 rpm in seconds. Dont matter what gear I am in, if the throttle is on the floor, it just bogs.

I have adjusted timing, vacume advance, to get rid of pinging, and now this problem. Motor sounds great but when it comes to give it some power, nothing. bog bog bog.

I have also confirmed the fuel pressure is about 6-8 lbs.. Which according to a book, is about right.
As far as vaccume, I am not sure if all my vaccumes are working correctly and that may be the problem.

If any one is local around Arnold, MO and can reccommend some repair specialist, preferably one that knows Quadrajets, I can drive the car to you so you can see what I mean. Or if any one can reccommend a fix by the text above. I appreciate all the help.

Thanks!

There is an Oldsmobile guru in Independence, MO (yeah I know it is 4 hours away). His name is Don Mann. My dad (Oldsguy) and I went to his shop off and on years ago. He and his sons raced Oldsmobiles for a number of years. You might look up his number and give him a call. I am sure he would rebuild your carburetor if you shipped it to him.

FWIW, it sounds like your carburetor is out of adjustment. Your secondary air doors could be set too tightly or your accelerator pump could be out of adjustment. Have you rebuilt the carburetor? Sometimes that is all it takes. If you are good with tools you can spend 4 or 5 hours on it and get it close.

Smile '71 455 Q-jet

I have a 7040251 (correct for a '70 455 auto), which I could rebuild for you or I could rebuild/repair your carburetor. I can re-bush the base plate for the common vacumn leak around the throttle shaft. I can also modify it for any performance desires that you might have. I have been building Q-jets for over 25 years, as we ran them on our NHRA stock eliminator Cutlass. I just completed one for a '70 Rallye 350, 5-speed, with a 366 ci stroker motor and I am currently working on one for a '71 W-30, 4-speed car. If interested, please contact me by e-mail. Thanks, Bob.
I am located in south Florida.
