License Plate Door Opener

I saw once a accessory/aftermarket piece that would hold the license plate open to pump gas. Anyone know who makes this? Want one for my 84 Hurst Olds :-)

Third Gen F-body license plate hold down units are what most guys use to replace theirs with. Those cars had the stay down versions already.

Mike's Montes sells a kit that converts your current license plate holder to a flip down and hold version.

He sells them on ebay and his website.

1978-1988 All G-Body Flip-Down Stay-Down Licence Plate Modification Kit | eBay

No dog in this hunt, I have never tried the kit, personally. Just an option.

It's called your gas cap. The door has a feature that you put the cap into to hold it open.

Yeah, I'd still go with the 3rd gen unit or the Mike's Montes mod pieces. The cap holder thingie works so-so until it eventually crunches it and you need a new gas cap. It'll definitely leave it's mark around the circumference after a while. Plus, if it's not seated all the way, it will pop out on you when you least expect it. 84-up caps were plastic. Put one in there and see what happens to it. It looks oval under pressure.

I've been using it this way with the stock plastic cap on my three 1985 D88s for close to a decade. Haven't needed a new gas cap yet.

Glad it works for you. Others don't care for it and prefer another method. Just because GM said you can, doesn't mean you have to.
