frame for my 72 cutlass
frame for my 72 cutlass
Im on the fence about buying a frame but I wont know until I pull the body off. Whats the going rate for a salvageable frame. Im not looking for perfect. I plan on boxing it and reinforcing it. Whats the going rate for a bare frame. Anyone have one close. Im not looking to buy right away first I gotta see how bad mine is. Any tips or advice is appreciated.
I have a pitted up convertible rolling chassis. It is solid but has lots of pitting. Some of the body mount holes will need a washer welded to them. I would take $550 for the roller with the convertible cross member. It would save having to box yours in. I will be using the roller for my W-30 body for about another month and then it can go.
Let me know when you are ready. I might just have to take you up on it. For now I might just do a quick fix so I can hang the fenders and enjoy it this summer while I do the frame., this might work out for me better. What would bring the price down ? not trying to beat you up on price but if you can sell something off of that frame and lower the price im all for it.
To be honest, There is not much on the frame that I don't already have extra laying around. If you could come up with a convertible crossmember I could knock off $60. The rear end is not an O type and is single track. I am not sure what rear end it is but it has a 12 bolt cover and curved in to the center at each side. P type maybe?

This frame has heavy pitting but solid and no rust holes. I was hitting it in the common places with a hammer and I couldn't find any soft spots. Some of the body mount holes need attention. I picked it up at a good deal so just passing it on.

yeah that whole rust belt thing really screws us over lol. My car was a Wisconsin car it's whole life for the most part. Although it had 55k when I got it it was hard to believe but the original engine I pulled was in ver very good shape and when I did the suspension last summer the original components were the original ones and where still in ok shape. It was just a rot box when I got it and at the time I didn't have money to do a frame off so I media blasted the under body with the body on and coated it all. 7 years later all the abuse finally caught up and the thin spots broke and since the fiberglass fenders I had flexed well I never noticed until I went to put steels ones back on. Originally when I did the car it wasn't as bad.

I have (1) convertible rolling chassis and (1) hardtop rolling chassis; I'll sell either one as is or stripped to the bare frame. They are down here in sunny south Florida.
Thanks, Bob.

I'm also looking for a 68-72 frame (preferably convertible). I got one potentially coming in a month or so, but am always interested in if there are any local deals as well (Kansas City area). As mentioned, that shipping is a killer
Guys im calling the search off., jensenracing77 I think im going to have to pass on the frame. I took a good look at mine tonight and it has little to no pitting the only pitting is behind the rear wheels. The only soft spots are where the body mounts are shot in the front. Money is tight and appx 150 bucks worth of steel should fix the soft spots and box it.
