Convertible top parts needed

Good morning?!?
Our incompetent work shop let us wait more than 3 month to repair the hydraulic system on the 63 F-85 Conv. They couldn`t find the parts in the USA!!! The shop is specialiced in US Cars
Well,it took us a few minutes to find different offersNow we will do the repair by ourself. The "best" prices we could find:
Top Cylinder 139,00 $ each
Motor Pump 229,00 $
Hose Set 100,00 $
Shipping 80,00 $
Everything from the same dealer to keep the shipping costs as low as possible. Here is our question now.Has anybody an idea where we can get all that stuff cheaper???

PS.The not working hydraulic system means to go to that US car fair and meeting next wheekend with a CLOSED soft top

Thanks a lot,take care,Claudia&Martin

These prices are really pretty good. You might be able to do better if you went to a hydraulic shop and laid out all the components for them to supply. There are good and bad reasons to do this.

The good part is that the quality will likely be far higher and the components will be repairable in the future. The cost might not be that much lower, but you would at least save on the shipping.

The bad is that you will be on your own in setting it all up and the components will likely not fit as well as OEM type components.

The OEM components are usually 'sealed' hydraulic cylinders that cannot be rebuilt but they do fit just right. You would be able to rebuild most aftermarket cylinders.

But you would need to know the working pressure of the OEM system or you might apply too much pressure and send your top up or down in no time flat or it might take forever. With the OEM your top will work like it did when it came from the factory.

If you do check out components from a hydraulic supply house then let us know what you find.

Hopefully this helped a little.

Smile Invisible roof

If you really want the top down before the hydralics are repaired you can simply raise and lower the top with FIRM manual force to reduce effort you could disconnect the hoses from the pump but be aware of oil spillage

Thumbs up

Quick and competent answers
old98owner:We will buy the OEM type components,no risk at all!!!The olds is all original and we`ll never do any experiments just to save some moneyWe ask because we "ain`t havent got a glue what to do"(this is from a song from Slade,70th.Hope it means what we want to say) Greenhorns in everything about Olds. There are not much around in the very south of Germany
How ever, it sounds more complicate than we did imagine.Means the pressure, time etc.The car is for enyoing the sun and will spent the most time in a garage. So the hood will be stored in the back .Another repair of the cylinder should`t be necessary for a long time You say the price is OK,so we will order tomorrow. It`s possible to pay by paypal. That makes it easy, safe and quick.Delivery within 6-8 working days.
Yellowstatue:You say we can drop down the hood manual quiet simply.Just like if it never would have been powered by a hydraulik system? We have those hoods on our Spifires.Sounds that is a piece of cake!We will see....
Another questiono you own all the cars in the long line of your signature?
We got 7 vintage cars and the very most people around us repute us for mad, sick, hooked and more...
Thank you for your interest and comprehensive answers.
See you soon on this page,Claiudia&Martin
