Convertible Rear Door Panel Uppers 1972

Hi all,

Ordered new from door panels from Legendary awhile back for my 1972 Cutlii convertible. At the time I thought my backs were OK. Now that I have the new fronts .. I realize just how bad the back look .

Legendary wants me to send my uppers to them and they will assemble ... but looking at my drivers side rear door panel, the upper piece has a few cracks and small pieces missing ... so looking for a replacement.

Please let me know if you have one for sale.

Legendary used to offer a repro that used plastic where the metal is for their "assembled" panels but when you sent them your originals they would re-use the metal and still charge you for "assembled". That's what I did but since I live 20 minutes away I just dropped my old ones off

HI Mike,

Thanks for the info, I will call them again tomorrow. To get the assembled pieces I also have to send them my originals, they did not say anything about having a replacement upper.

I mentioned mine were cracked ... and they said could repair ... @ 85/hr.

My 72 uppers are a white plastic from the factory, not metal. Hard to believe that no one sells the upper piece..metal or plastic.

JIm,

I am not sure if the rear convertible panels ever came complete as reproductions. The fronts used to have the steel piece at the top later replaced by plastic. I did a 1971 set in PUI on a 1971 convertible and had to assemble the rears myself around 23 years ago (you basically removed the top plastic from the original and glued to the reproduction. I just did the same thing again on the rear panels around 4 years ago, when I replaced all that with Legendary. I am not aware of that part of the convertible rear panel being reproduced

I assume that top plastic is broken in yours. You may want to try repairing it with something like Bondo.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the response! I need the rear door panel, the part with the hole in it for the rear window crank. I do not need the rear arm well pieces or front door panel. Do you have any extras you can sell?

I should have something, do you need both sides?

Hi Tim,

The drivers side is pretty busted up ... so definitely need that. Passengers has a few small pieces missing along the top ... but if yours is better I would probably take both.

Hi Tim,

I know ... I did call them as well ... but I have heard that the PUI backs might not match my Legendary fronts ... so I was trying not to go that way

Looks like I have a 70 set - a 72 set and a passenger-side single.
72 is close to driver's quality.
70's are beaten up but good tops.

Did you ever get the panels that you need? I just brought a trailer load of parts from my warehouse and have some decent black rears. Please let me know. Thanks, Bob.
