Center console wanted

Restoring a 71 cutlass S. I took out rotted bench seat and am installing aftermarket bucket seats. Looking for center console. Doesn't have to be exact to that model since I'm using aftermarket seats anyways but prefer 68 to 72 cutlass. Would like to spend max of 700

What type of shifter/transmission?

-4 speed manual floor shift?
-Regular auto floor shift?
-Hurst Dual Gate auto floor shift?

Finally, post your location.

located in northwest ohio. Currently has column shifter and may retrofit to floor shift but more concerned with just any console to fill the empty space. I may fabricate cover for shifter opening if not used

I have a original gold console that I pulled from a '70 Cutlass many years ago. It is a regular auto floor shift console but the plastic area (under the woodgrain insert) was cracked up where it screwed onto the floor shifter housing.

I repaired most of it but it still needs some additional repair to hold the shift indicator bulb socket bracket.

OR....all the area I repaired could be cut back out if the console was to be used w/a Hurst Dual Gate auto setup (the broken up area I refer to all gets trimmed away and eliminated when converting to a Dual Gate).

The console door hinge area on this one is well intact and hasn't ever been broken (fairly common on these consoles).

I did crack the D side of the upper console body and repaired the three cracks that occurred when I stepped on the upper half...uggh! Repair is rock solid and not really visible anyway once the console is installed b/n the seats (cracks occurred on the D side of the console glovebox area).

As you probably know, these things aren't cheap to ship as you need to use a really big (and heavy duty) box to ship them.

The console would be complete w/the possible exception of the plastic chrome woodgrain insert (would have to see if I have an extra here)....you can buy nice new inserts from the repro parts folks AND you would need to source used or repro console floor mounting brackets (not expensive).

Price....I'll discuss via PM. Would not be ridiculously priced....WELL below your "max" price. Console is currently apart and I can post some pics if you got serious about it (as well as assemble the console).

You may want to see if anything pops up a lot closer to you so you could avoid a shipping/packaging charge....figured I would at least mention the one I have.

Patton,
I just shipped a 70-72 console minus the shifter about a month ago via the UPS store. Shipping (ground), fabricating a box and packing was about $150. Customer did get it in about 2 days.

Thanks Pat. I drop off at a local UPS Pack and Ship store but I use a shipping account/service here to get fairly large discounts off the "retail" rates (Pirate Ship). Still, just wanted the OP to realize shipping isn't a low cost endeavor any more....especially on these large packages. Box of this size usually requires substantial reinforcement.....unless you want roll the dice and hope they don't handle it roughly (fat chance of that!).

I'm prepping a restored Buick fan shroud for shipping now....what a PITA!

Thanks

Yeah I've seen a few online for fair price until I saw how much shipping cost was. Understandable though since console is large and fragile

Here are three pics....can take and post more pics. Overall this is a fairly clean console and the pics show all the "main" parts. It would be "loosely" put together for shipping....I'm assuming you would want to take it apart again and paint/dye the plastic pieces so no use in me doing things like installing the bright alum trim more "permanently" (ie - twisting all the mounting tabs on the long forward alum piece and installing the new push pins in the glovebox alum trim piece).

You can see the two cracks in the last pic. I repaired these solidly and the forward crack ran upwards into the plastic that's covered by the upper metal outer glovebox surround piece...that area also solidly repaired with a overlaid plastic support piece.

Once the console is painted these cracks shouldn't be real apparent....especially since they are sort of buried down by the side of the bucket seat sides.

No lamp harness with this one but misc hardware (screws for console door, hinge, screws to attach the upper and lower console together, etc) will be included. No shifter included either but I may have one (regular '70-2 Olds auto floor shifter - extra cost) if you decide you want to go further w/the install (ie - convert your car to floor shift). I've restored a lot of these consoles so very familiar with the various parts and pieces needed.

Found a 71 or 72 woodgrain plastic "chrome" insert piece....this could probably be "filled" where the shifter handle slot is and then covered w/a new woodgrain insert (or some sort of overlay).

Packaging will require at least a couple of new boxes (48x16x16) and me building a wooden "skeleton" to support the insides of the long box...so extra $, over and above the actual shipping cost, will be required.

I'll PM you w/a price and a shipping/packaging cost ESTIMATE.

Console

Not to try to cut in line, call it 3rd in line, as other good people already have their hats in the ring. But as an alternate with shipping as I am in Michigan near Lansing might be close enough for you to drive
just a thought

Lansing is not to far of a drive and may save me in shipping charges and save seller hassle of packing. Feel free to message me with pictures and pricing

No problem.....that's why I suggested seeing what else may pop up a lot closer to you. I don't mind shipping.....it's an extra console I have and I won't need it.

Brett/Paladin31 is a good guy to deal with as well!

One more thing.....since I've restored a lot of these I have paint, etc. supplies here. I could refinish it in black if need be (at an extra cost). I also have the '70 Cutlass blue interior color and probably the '70 gold interior color.
