Breather Source and Part Number

So no responses in the Big Block section is AM so maybe here:

I'm not sure how I can do a seach on here and not come up with this but where do I get a driver's side air cleaner breather similar to this? I'm looking for a stockish look. If someone has a NAPA part number it would help. The valve cover grommet size is 1" (actually 63/64 according to a previous Octania post). I don't have the 90 degree rubber part on the top either

Mike - You can get the 90 degree elbow from Fusick, etc. Fusick's catalog shows that elbow to be correct for '66-71 model years.

Not sure on the breather unit itself.....have you considered finding a good used on and "redoing" it? The later style breathers are sold by the repro places as well and may still be available from GM but I don't know if anyone's making repros of these earlier style breathers yet.

Patton,

Thanks for responding. For some reason I thought this type breather was sold as an aftermarket fairly "correct" part (not some shiny cheap chrome thing) available at any auto parts store. I found a few that looked close at NAPA so I thought someone might have a part number. The NAPA specs on these things are pretty much non-existent so I can't even tell what size the female part that goes into the valve cover is from their listings. I'll stop by NAPA tonight and see if they can match something up. I'd like it by this weekend. I've got an open element air cleaner so it's not like the engine bay is anywhere near "correct" anyway. I was just looking for "neat and tidy" looking.

My stock air cleaner is too high for a Performer and it hits the hood. It never had the correct breather set up because it wouldn't have fit anyway. This is my attempt to get a cheap Edelbrock open element air cleaner to have a "correct" looking breather set up

Thanks,

The breather itself can be had at your local auto parts, the rubber grommet...I don't know, maybe?

as stated above, those breathers can be cleaned and reused, for the rest of time. there is a steel mesh and a steel wool-like filter element inside. they can be refinished too. give them a little oil(a blast of wd40 works well) to wet the filter media, and you're good to go.

FYI, the aftermarket breather from NAPA is plastic. Fits and functions the same, though.

Thanks,

I saw your post on ROP. I'm glad you told me. I was going to buy it and the rubber elbow. I don't have any original one. I stole that pic from somewhere.

I ended up getting this one. It's not correct but it will work with the cheap open element air cleaner I bought. I'll probably wire wheel it and paint it black.

I bought this cheap air cleaner that I'm going to paint Orange:

I bought the same thing, except the silver one because I too couldn't find a local store that carried the elbow. It works okay, I bought the adapter thing for the air cleaner as well.

Not sure the engine runs any different than before when I didn't have it, but the factory must have put it there in conjunction with the pcv valve for a reason.
