Auto trans dust/inspection cover

Need an inspection cover that actually fits. The ""universal"" ones are anything but. I've hacked away like crazy and the flextplate and crank bolts are still chewing away at it.

My setup is a 200-4r/403, but theoretically any TH350/TH400 cover will work.

Thanks!

What is your actual vehicle application? Make/model/year... I have several NOS covers (plastic) purchased for 307 G-Body vehicles... It's possible the covers are the same for your 200r4/403 combination...

I have some plastic ones for their early seventies cars. None are perfect as they might have a crack or chip but all are usable. 35 shipped for one.

I have 5 or 6 plastic ones. $25 + the ride if you need.

Where to begin? First of all, I can't understand how the crankshaft bolts could possibly impact the inspection cover . The flexplate cover goes in front of the flexplate and the crankshaft bolts are behind the flexplate. Secondly, you need a cover for a 200-4r. The engine doesn't even matter, as all Olds V-8 engines are the same, as far as the rear of the block is concerned. I'm pretty sure that the covers differ from one transmission to another, with the exception of some oem factory plastic covers that I have, with a dual pattern for the lower mounting screw holes, at the transmission pan rail, for a T-350/T-400. The vehicle that the engine/transmission are in is irrelevant.

Where to end? You can feel free to come to my house and inspect it yourself if you so desire. The crank bolts go *through* the crank and do protrude out towards the front. The universal replacement covers have a terrible tendency to warp such that the section around the crank bends *towards* the crank. Maybe it's because I'm using ARP crank bolts. Maybe it's because I'm cursed. Who knows.
As a fun bonus, the aftermarket covers are just a teensy bit small, so the Olds flexplate also rubs against the bottom of the cover. Sometimes. Again, depending on how much it is warped at the moment. And they warp because they use a very soft plastic.

AFAIK, all the main TH trannies have the same inspection cover mounting area. I'd love to see proof otherwise.
I do agree, however, that the vehicle doesn't matter.

A FACTORY OEM flexplate is held in place with six 7/16-20 x 21/32"(~0.656") long bolts, with a "star" washer under the head. A random small block crank flange measured 0.453"; a random flexplate measured 0.117" thick; an external 7/16" star washer measured 0.055", for a TOTAL of O.625". This leaves 0.041" protruding out of the front of the crank flange. That's between 1/32" and 1/16". ARP does NOT list a flexplate bolt specifically for Oldsmobile; therefor, what ever bolts you obtained are for a different application. ARP shows several flexplate bolts in the 7/16 x 20 thread; but they are longer than the oem bolts. This may be part of your issue. You didn't mention if you used a star washer under the bolt head, which would make the threads protrude even more. I'm not trying to pick on you here ; just attemting point out different things that can affect a specific problem. As far as the flexplate cover goes, I have included a picture of one that I sold, which has the dual hole pattern. I hope that you understand that this is in no way an "I told you so". I'm just trying to back up my statements with proof. Thanks, Bob.

Sounds to me like you might have standard flywheel bolts in your flexplate. The ones for flexplate are shorter and do not protrude through the crank flange over 1/8 of an inch. Manual bolts are much longer and would stick out in the front of the flange by around 3/8 of an inch.
