70 "O" type posi carrier

Hi All, I am looking for a 12 bolt "O" type posi/anti spin carrier only. This is the one with the 10 bolt ring gear with a 12 bolt cover. Thanks

Hi Steve
I have one I pulled from a 1970 Vista Cruiser wagon many many years ago. It's a 2.56 ratio. Let me know if you'd like to see pictures of it. John

Hi John,
Please post pics when you can. I need to use the 3:08 gears I have now. Have to check and see if will work. Is this a clutch type carrier? Thanks

Hi Steve
I don't know if 3.08's will fit this carrier or not. Monzaz could answer that question. I believe it's a Eaton, it has the large "S" shaped spring in the center and clutches on each side. I also don't know if it's the same carrier for the Vista Cruiser and Cutlass/442. Somewhere along the way I was told the side bearings are larger for the Vista Cruiser. So if your using it in a VC we're fine, but if you want to install it in a Cutlass/442 that's another question to get answered. John

o type unit

Hey guys, what axle spine is the unit? If it is 28 it will work just fine even if the bearing carrier hubs are bigger ...we can use conversion bearings to make it work in a regular housing.

Bearing hubs are usuall only bigger in the 31 spline rears.

2.56 2.78 are 2 series carrier
3.08 3.23 are the 3 series carrier
3.42 and up are the 4 series carrier.

I would like to use the housing I have now which is mint just swap the ring gear ans set up. This is probabley a 28 spline but have not removed the axles yet. If is a 10 bolt ring out of a 12 bolt cover "O" type housing it should work. Send me a message on how much you would like for it. I believe it will ship UPS if packaged correctly. Thanks for the info monzaz

The only O-axle rears that came with 31-spline axles were the late-67/68 OAI-equipped cars. All of the 28-spline carriers use the same carrier bearings - LM501349/LM501314
The Vista rears do have larger axle bearings or wheel bearings. They are SET-10 or also known as A-10 for the 1970 Vistas. The spline count is still 28.
Carriers:
#673 = 2:56/2:78,28-spline
#671 = 3:08/3:23,28-spline *also correct for the Richmond gears*
#588 = 3:42-up,28-spline
#672 = 3:42-up,31-spline

John, It looks like that carrier is not going to work with the gears I will be using. Thanks

OK,

Jim & Brian thanks for your help! It's nice to have expert advice rather than guessing what will work! John

I still have that big car 761 carrier, if that is the one he needs.
I would have Brian go through it.

Big car mid size

761 carrier is the FULL size car carrier and has 12 bolts the 671 is the mid size a-body 'O' type and only has 10 bolts for the ring gear. Not going to swap ...besides physically different in total size...

I'm sorry Anthony, I sold that to Monzaz years ago. Send me a PM and I'll let you know what I may have at this time. John
