A 71-72 grille support will work, but is slightly different. The 70 grille support has 4 tapped holes for the grilles. The 71-72 grille support has 2 tapped holes and 2 regular holes,so you would need to use a nut & bolt for the lower holes when using a 71-72 grille support on a 70.

There are also two different styles for 70.One with a single square opening on the top,and the other with two square openings on the top. The latch hook was on the opposite side,on the 70 hoods, and sometime during production, they maust have figured that they were going to put the hook on the other side for 71,so they started punching two holes out.
So,technically,there are 3 different styles of grille supports for 70-72. Early 70,late 70,and 71-72.
