'68-9 INTAKE J-398662 or 405233

Bought another "uncracked" intake 398662

It's cracked in the usual place between the large carb bores.

While serviceable, the buyer is spending a lot for a conversion and wants perfection.

I have parts to trade, or cash.

You must have it verified uncracked. Blasted clean is best. I need it right away. Buyer wants conversion done in 4 weeks and we already burned 1 week getting the last one blasted clean only to find a crack, and the next one was clean already but also cracked.

DAMMIT

If anyone wants the red one, or parts off it- TVS, thermostat housing, CHOKE COIL, let me know, I need to recover some of that fundage. Anything.

Just a thought, what about welding it and machining it back down?

Well, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right
I mean, it's cracked... but not unserviceable
therefore not "broke"
Welding cast iron is iffy at best. Machine shop suggested drilling a hole at the end of the crack and fitting it with a plug, to stop the crack from propagating.

No leak thru to hot air crossover. Just a crack from one side of the A/F plenum to the other.

The point is the buyer is spending a lot and expects an uncracked unrepaired part... which are getting hard to find...

I have a 398662 intake. Where exactly should I look for the crack?

anyone Should be able to spot these cracks, after magnaflux

The red intake had a crack the naked [reading glasses] eye could see; magnifying 7x loupe made it obvious.
Vertical crack, right between the larger [aft] carb bores, at the thinnest spot.

I have one also if the other does not work out. The problem is I don't have the time to get it blasted and checked. Visually it appears to be in great condition. Date code 299.
