65 Cutlass core support

I may need to buy a 65 ( not 64 they are NOT the same) core support for my 64 F-85 pro-touring build. I have discovered that the 65's are 3 inches longer-deeper in the cradle where the radiator sits. I live in Dallas would like to find a rust free within driving distance. Without it I may not have enough cooling space for the BB 425.

If you don't find one local I've got one up in Oregon. Somewhere I was told the 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder engine equipped cars had different core supports in 1964 and 65. Does that sound familiar to you? John

I think some of the difference maybe to is that the brackets that bolt to the bottom of the core support to hold the radiator in are different sizes to hold the correct radiator in place. I have to different sizes one you see in place is three inches wide, and I have another pair that is 2.5 inches wide. But with A/C and a trans cooler plus a 500 HP 425 I don't think the 64 core support has enough room-air space. I will start calling tomorrow. I know that a 65 core support with aluminum radiator with a shroud and 2 electric fans will work. If that is the case I will either have to modify the one I have or start over and locate a 65.

I got one of the aluminum radiators from Summit that bolt (set) right in and have never had a cooling problem. And this is a .30 over 455 w/11 1/2 to 1 compression. 160 thermostat

No it is a 65 but they list all manner of configurations. You just order a size to fit your application----might have to change the upper and lower brackets to accomadate the thickness but other than that I don't see why this wouldn't work.

V6 cars have the battery on the passenger side. Therefore it needs to have a bracket on that side for the battery hold down to hook into. Ive seen them with the hold down on the driver, passenger, and both sides. Also, the A/C cars have a hose that bolts to the top of the support. Id imagine the only difference is a hole for the bolt to go thru.

Hello therobski,
Just wondering, how did you solve your core support issue?
