455 Crank & Rods Wanted - Detroit Area

I have a '67 425 block and want to turn it into a 455. Do you in the Detroit area have a crankshaft and connecting rods for a 455?

Let me know.

I'm having a tough time finding low compression 0.40 pistons for my 425. The only place that has low compression pistons for my 425 is Kanter. Ron, my engine tech guy wasn't impressed with the last set of Kanter pistons that I received. Two of them weren't quite up to specs.

I am also willing to consider purchasing a complete running 455 engine to put into my '67 Delta 88.

I have plenty of rods here. 4 5 gallon buckets full of them to be exact. I have a couple cranks as well, but am about 6 hours from Detriot.

Was your 425 crank bad?

From what I have understood from this forum is that, I need to replace my 425 crankshaft and connecting rods to transform this 425 engine into a 455 engine. Am I correct?

Yes, that is correct. I've got a 1967 425 block with 455 guts in one of my project cars. I believe you may need to do a slight amount of clearance work on the block. But I'm not sure if you have to or if its a "just to be safe" kinda thing. Someone else who knows for sure will have to speak up. Oh, I think you'll have to put 455 pistons in too. Many years ago I purchased an engine for parts. The owner said it was a 455 that he replaced one piston it, but then it knocked. It turned out to be a 425. When I pulled the heads the one 455 piston actually came out of the block... that must have been one heck of a knock! So based on that I'm thinking the 425 pistons may be shorter than the 455's and would give you less compression.

Sounds like you have a road trip in your future I know J will treat you right if you wind up buying parts from him. John

I have a complete rotating assembly, that I can remove from the block, and ship.I have the 455 crank, matching rods, and factory low-comp pistons, which are on the rods.$300.00 for all of it,and that includes shipping to Detroit Michigan. This is all stock, unmolested stuff, with stock size rod & main journals.I will also throw in a 455 flexplate, due to the bolt pattern being different on the crank flange.

Thats a bummer Jay. You just missed a complete low milage running 455 I had for sale, by about a week.

Brian should be able to hook you up but if all else fails I do have a rusty 455 in unknown condition setting here we can pull apart.

I have been in touch with 507OLDS. A road trip with my son might be in my immediate future.

Thanks for all the replies! This ride of mine just might be able to make it to the 20th Oldsmobile Homecoming Show this June, 16th after all.
