I have a 400 governor and they aren't even close to the same.

425 Transmission Governor

Original part #: 8626853 fits 425 up to 1973; definitely different from T-400, more than double the cost . I was surprised too. I thought that they were the same. Must be due to the reverse rotation of the 425.

I can get one from a parts car but it will take quite a while. Like, weeks.

Nope. It is completely different. The T-350 and T-400 are very similar in appearance; the 425, I found out, is totally different. It is MUCH bigger. I have a complete '67 Toro drivetrain; however, I don't want to part the trans out.

Is your governor missing or not working correctly? They can be rebuilt. Thanks, Bob.

The problem is that they are built into the cover and you must ruin the cover to get it out. I cut open my cover and removed it and found two different springs on it so I am trying to find out if they come like that or did someone fool with it at some time. It may be possible to change the springs without disassembling it but it would be difficult.
