425 or 455 and/or trans in or near ohio wanted

I have a 1966 ninety-eight, that may need a new motor. I need to get something in it so I can drive it while we're rebuilding, and I wouldn't mind having a spare on hand in case something were to happen.

This car came with a 425, but it's been bumped up to a 455. I believe this was one of the early switch pitch trans setups but I'll have to check into that. I just want to get it up and running again.

I have a 307 from an '84 delta 88 that I'm considering getting rid of. If you have a use for it please let me know. The original plan when we pulled the 307 was to have it on hand and try swapping it into the ninety-eight(because the 455 has been out for a while), but I'm pretty sure it just won't have the ***** to move the ninety-eight(my dad still seems convinced that it will, but I have serious doubts.) The 307 ran when we pulled it, and it's been kept in a dry steel building for the last year or two.

I need to post a for sale thread soon, I have a few other items that I don't need, and will probably never use.

Can I see them run? Columbus is a drive from Akron, so I'm only interested if I can see them run.

I have a 425 short block and could meet you in South Bend this week if you can fit my schedule. It has been stored in my garage for 35 years or so.

just ran into some money issues, looks like I won't be buying a motor for a few months. If you have it I'd still like to hear about it, but like I said it'll be a while before I can afford it.

I want $300 for the short block, but this week is the only time this year I plan to be in your area. South Bend is a lot closer to you than Albuquerque The engine has been in storage since the early 70s.

In the parts cars for sale section there is a 66 98 convert for $800. Should be everything you need and more?

Hey seabee, don't mean to hijack your thread and ask, but it started here. What do you think about the short block? I may be interested in it if you're not. Of course, sounds as if you need it worse than I do, so if you are tottally not interested in it, I'd like to hear more info about it, as far as year if known, the history of it when pulled, is the flywheel and/or balancer or oilpan included, any idea of what kind of car it came out of.

BTW seabee, just to have transportation until you get a BB built for your car, why not put the 307 in it just to have transportation? Shouldn't be that much work for conversion back and forth when you get ready to install the BB. It will be a sled, but at least it'll run. You may have to kick your left leg out the door to push off and help get it rolling from a stoplight, but hey its transportation. It won't be that bad.

And yes, you should have the Variable pitch Turbo 400 in it with the good wedge dogbone style sprag. Don't let that get away from you. Even if you don't like the Variable pitch and go away from that, don't let that sprag drum get away from you. If its original 66 there is a even a good chance it has the good dogbone style rear sprag too. Expensive hard to find parts.

Thanks for the heads-up hotrodpc, I don't know how much of the trans is orignial, my dad rebuilt it about two years ago and I'm not sure what modifications went into it.

While I'd really like to buy the motor, especially for $300, I just don't think it's going to happen... I don't mind at all if someone else jumps on it. I'm really sad that I won't be buying a motor any time soon. My girlfriend just quit her job so I'm stuck paying all of the bills on my own for a while.

If a miracle happens and I come up with the money I'll let you guys know, but for the moment I'm out of the running. I may just have to settle for the 307 for now... it's not really that bad I just got excited about the idea of having a spare motor and trans. I'll be looking at a trans real soon I think, don't know for sure that it works but for $50 it's not a big loss if it doesn't.

Just checked out the 98 convertible. It seems like a good deal but since I'm broke I think I'm going to have to hope it's still there when I have the money.

Wrong type of economy right now to be quitting jobs sea. GF, might have to start tolerating a bit more crap unless she has something else lined up. The 307 won't be bad for temp use. At one time in the late 80's, I had a 64 GMC, bro had a 67, dad had a 68. We kept this old Inline 6 230 around for a spare motor to use during builds etc. We could not kill that thing. We all used if for awhile, and even had a friend borrow it for a few months. It was just our community spare motor. I had the motor set up to where it would interchance with anything, the linkage, wiring etc, and it had dual exhuast too, so I had 2 pipes made that stayed with the motor and would fit just about anything.

Haha nice. I'm a big fan of most I6 motors, they're tough to kill and have a decent power to weight ratio. I can't say I would use it for performance but they're great for offroading.
