1979 Cutlass Cat Bracket Needed

Does anyone know where I can find, new or used in good condition, a Catalytic Converter bracket/hanger for a 1979 Olds Cutlass 260 F motor. I need the bracket that bolts onto the transmission mount and the back Catalytic Converter flange. According to my manual this is a 1 piece deal for the V8, but the one on my car could be wrong, it looks like it's the one for the 6 cylinder which has an insulator that bolts onto the bracket and then bolts onto the cat flange. The insulator is completely ripped on one side so the whole thing will probably fail soon.

I guess I could probably use either one but these are proving to be unavailable. Would anyone have any leads? Much appreciated. I'm planning on replacing my existing A/C factory style pancake Cat with the Walker 11512.

I have a few used brackets; if you could post an illustration from your manual, I'll try to match one up. Thanks, Bob.

cat hanger

have you considered replacing the rubber strap by drilling out the rivets? a used hanger might not be in very good shape if you find one. the hanger material should be available in the form of a universal hanger. napa has something you might be able to use, part # is exh35819

Man, that is a SUPERB idea, thanks for that! I will surely check this out today. I would much rather follow your idea. By the way, your car looks familiar, are you in the GMO Chapter?

I have the bracket you need

Hello, another guy named Bob here. I have the bracket you are looking for. It is from a '79 Calais which had the 260/automatic combination. It was removed by me in 1990 from a Florida car so no salty roads. The rubber is good. Since I'd like to see somebody get some use out of it you can have it for $25.00 and you pay actual shipping from zip code 32780 which is East Central Florida. I also have the catalytic converter which was fine. The car had about 75k. It you want the bracket it is yours for whatever extra it costs to ship.
I have had five '79 H/Os, one '79 Calais, and two '80 Calais' so I have other odds and ends too. I will send pictures if you are interested. Call or text to 321-223-8849 or email to mbhoke@ymail.com.
Bob
