Should be able to tell whether the door latch is operating correctly. Open the door and manually move the jaws that catch the striker. If they move freely, you're good. If not, try lubricating them and work them back and forth. I'd bet it's still an alignment problem with a slightly sagging door vs the striker. Does the door close easier when you lift up on it as you're closing it? Any signs of unusual wear pattern on the striker? I often see flat spots on the head of the striker from the latch not hitting it in the correct spot.

Did you try to take the latch pin out and close the door to see if its maybe a worn or sagging hinge or pin? See if it lines up correctly..Sometimes the little plastic ring on the latch pin is work or missing also..
Let us know.

The latch moves alright I lubed it up with silicone spray and worked it for about 10 mins

Yes...you can push the latch hook down even further after the door is opened. Here's a pic of mine after opening the door...without pushing the latch further down. The forward jaw or hook just clears the bottom of the door jamb striker. This is the factory setting on a lower mileage all original car who's body panels have never been touched and the doors have no sag.

Sammie, lets see a picture of your door striker that the latch fits on when the door is closed. There should be a plastic bushing around the striker as Joe mentioned, without it the door rattles and seems not latched properly when closed.

Sammie, no bushing on the striker shaft. You can adjust it all day and it won't close correctly without the bushing.

Here's a thread with the part number to the part you need to fix the problem, one for each door. I understand the silencer bushings are getting hard to find. Good luck.

My thoughts are have some patience and don't troll for replies in other threads. Welcome to ClassicOldsmobile.
On finding the silencer bushing, if they are discontinued that really sucks because they just don't last long. I know Dorman/Help! section at local auto parts sells the complete striker with the bushing installed. I would imagine they will start selling the bushings. They even have a request area where you can suggest parts for them to manufacture, market and sell.
I would find some vinyl tubing or plastic pipe that fits tight on the striker neck and "make" a bushing out of that. Maybe a piece you can heat to slip on the striker neck that would be tight when cool?

Yeah because it's in the rear quarter, it would be amazing if it fell into the door, I guess if you removed the flow through ventilation vent and stood the car on the front bumper and shook it? It won't go any where if you unscrew the door striker.

sometimes, sometimes it will fall into the 1/4 because the guy on the line had to do a repair to the striker nut and couldn't put the cage back around it, or the cage wasn't there from the beginning. I worked there. 99.9 % of the time youll be ok. but theres that 1 time
