Not to hijack your thread, but what are these, where are they on the car, and what do they look like?
Thanks,
Dave

They're in the trunk crosswise between the trunk lid hinges. About 1/4" diameter rods that act as a spring to keep the trunk lid open.

Exactly. And they're a real PITA to install as well.

Thanks to all at this moment I gotta put the car on the backburner for a little bit to square up some other stuff but I will revisit this again down the road. This site clearly kicks ***, anyone else I talk to about Oldsmobiles just looks at me dumbfounded thanks to all

Josh, sometimes when 'life happens' that's just what you have to do. Funny stuff - most people don't even remember what an Oldsmobile is. I've been to lots of car shows where the 'uneducated' voice their ignorance out loud. My car didn't have any badging on it at the time and a couple of know it alls asked me if my Chevelle had 'the' big block 454 in it. I just smiled and nodded. That seemed to help them move along Anyone who asks about the car I'm more than happy to share the history and provenance with. Dad bought the car when it was 2 years old and it's been in the family ever since. I've owned it since 1980 - bought from my brother for $1 because he didn't like it anymore.

Look forward to seeing your return visit and questions.
