1970 Ring & Pinion, 8.6 rear end

I am looking for a nice used 3.42 ring & pinion gear for a 1970 Oldsmobile 12 bolt/10 bolt internal bolt pattern rear end. Only a 3.91 and aa 3.42 will fit, I have the 3.91 am looking for the 3.42 set. Reply here or write me at director@hurstolds.com.

gears

The problem is never install used gears in a daily driver, on a weeks or maybe 6 times a summer it should be good. They tend to wear out faster being used.

Good advise. I am restoring the car and it will just be driven to local car shows. I am trying to get a better highway gear to drive to those shows. There are many 10 bolts available for cheap but still want the 12 bolt look from behind. Sometimes i wish I loved Camaro's instead!

What? If the rear end is set up properly the gears won't wear any faster than a new set. If the wear pattern on the used crown and pinion is good you'll be fine with a used set.

I have complete 12-bolt "O" rear ends, 3.08 & 3.23, if you're up for a swap.

The 3.23's sound perfect to me, but how do we make it happen? I live in Phoenix, AZ. Sorry about the Camaro wisecrack, said out of desperation!! LOL

As discussed with you weeks ago in a PM you will need both the gear set and the carrier if you choose a gear below 3.42. Good luck.

I shipped a complete rear to Wyoming about 5 years ago with Fastenal. Email me to discuss: drolds1@bellsouth.net. Thanks, Bob.
