I got this in a parts deal & didn't know if could be used with a chip out of one of the teeth?

Yep ,3.31.
3862689 is the p/n of the 3.31 ring gear.
3862693 is the pinion gear and together they are the 3961405 gearset that a lot of people desire.

If it was a derby rearend, i might give it a whirl. but nobody is going to derby with a c clip 8.2.
