1968 Passenger Side Vent Window

I have a 1968 Cutlass S with a missing pivot on the passenger side vent window. There doesn't appear to be an easy way to cleanly attach a pivot (if I could source one), and all of the seals are smoked, so I would prefer to just put in an entire new assembly. Is there anyone that knows a source for a brand new passenger side vent window? Or does anyone have a clean passenger side vent window that would just be a direct bolt in?

Do you mean the upper pivot that goes into the chrome frame attached to the window chrome frame??

Not reproduced as far as I know. You will need to source a used assembly.

Might as well replace the whole assembly and its gasket and channel run seal.

Parts Sources: 68 GM A-bodies... Buick, Olds Pontiac, and Chevelle use the same window on the Coupes. The other body styles use a different frame/window assembly per each body....Club Coupes (Post Coupes), 4 doors, and verts. But are the same throughout the GM A-body with the side vent.

Also, verify if yours are tinted or clear.

There are two versions of the Holiday coupe chrome triangular outer frame. One frame has a lip one does not. This lip is not noticeable when the door is closed. Fit up is the same.

Take care to mark all of the fasteners before removal. Count the number of turns out on the serrated adjusters. Mark everything with pictures and a sharpie.
Look at how well it fits now to have a comparison. You may need to adjust the door and quarter window as well. Soooo if you need sweeps or rail seals etc... do the whole side at once you will thank us. Remove the seats and both door panels. Much easier to do with them out of the way

Thank you very much Dr. Olds... sound advice. Right now all of the interior is out anyway, minus the seat which I put back in for the shakedown run. I will take lots of pictures and mark everything clearly, I'm old enough to take good advice when I hear it. Also, this is a clear window - no tinting. I'm surprised if you say there is tinting on these, not something that I've seen personally.

I am from North Eastern Wisconsin (about an hour south of Green Bay), but the reality is that we'd probably be shipping the window, this wouldn't be an in person transaction.

Scott, I would definitely be interested in yours from the GTO, especially if the seals look like they're in good condition. Can you send a pic? I haven't been on here long, but I see a bunch of posts about difficulty on the vent window seals so I'd like to stay away if possible. I have a Cutlass S which is a hardtop.

Is this what you are asking for? Complete with all bits?

Paladin 31 - That is so close to what I'm looking for, but I need it for the passenger side. That one appears to be the drivers side. Is the passenger side vent window just to the left out of the frame?

The top one (the first posted picture) is the right version, but I need it for the passenger side. I have a hardtop.

If you don't want to remove the whole assembly, with the wing window actuator assembly disconnected, it's relatively easy to push down on the wing window and remove it. (I think the window has to be totally open)

The frame for the glass is the same whether it's a convertible or hardtop

Brett,

If you have a convertible pot metal piece let me know. I can't remember if I need a left or a right (I'm only missing one side) but I'm probably going to have a set re-chomed this winter. I just looked at a set locally but the joker wanted $200 for each side. He told me they weren't pitted.... friggen waste of time..... I hate it when people lie

Thanks,

Mike

Allyolds, you're right on the nose. The longer I think about this, the more nervous I get about pulling the whole thing out including the long lower track because the windows open and close so nicely already. I may give this a shot this weekend, and start looking at just the window and not the border. Worst case scenario, I put this back in place until I find an entire assembly but repairing the existing might be the way to go. And I obviously will have to buy the seals but those are all over the place. It sounds like you have experience with the vent windows - is there a certain place I should go for the seals?

Believe there are entities out there that rebuild / repair / rechrome Vent window assemblies. I have a very good '66 but it is the previous generation. You might look in the regular Hemmings Motor News (paper edition). A lot of non-computer types still advertise in it, quite likely.

I’ve talked to Don at Don’s East Coast Restorations. They do vent windows with your exchange. I was going to give him a bunch of core vent windows to
lower my cost.
