66 manual cars had a hole in the floor. No hump like later cars.

Really? Not sure if I'm following you here. Do you mean no plate @ all with just a hole in the floor pan?

I believe he is talking about the hump like a 66-67 gto, not that there is not a reinforcement ring..

Probably what he meant. The Olds did not have a huge hump like some of the other a-body lines but did have a plate. The hole was cut with a torch and the plate was positioned by which transmission was used.

The 68/69 plate is a little different because of the difference in the floor pans. You can use the later plate but need to form it so it will match the floor pan contour. The shift boot and retaining ring are the same 66-69. I have seen the repo 67 Chevelle plate used in an Olds but will need modifications. If you're putting new carpet in,use the automatic set because for whatever reason the 4 speed carpet has a lot of extra material for the plate and will not lay down nicely. I was told @ one time the carpet vendors used another 64-67 GM A Body for the mold and had a larger plate/hump.

Yes I was referring to the Bump in the floor as in later cars. It is good to know it is not indicated in a 66. That being the case the Shifter is placed only through a hole in the floor with the ring and boot screwed to the floor in the same way it is on my 67 camaro? The would be great. One less task to conquer. Converting from column shifter. Thanks for the feedback

As I said before, the 66 does have a hump/plate for the shifter hole. It's not just a hole in the floor & the plate is positioned over the hole depending on transmission usage. The 3 & 4 speeds had different shifter locations.

I have the part I could cut out of a 67 parts car. It also has the console brackets. This body isn't much good. And this part isn't perfect but it's useable.

Thanks for the picture . It is very helpful. No need to cutout the part. I can fabricate that. What is the approximate size of the hole?
