You're selling yourself short.
While we can all undoubtedly point to a bad experience or two on ebay, we can also point to bad experiences in our dealings with mail order houses, internet-based vendors, and even the local brick-and-mortar store. The fact is, thousands of people buy stuff on ebay every day without a problem. Check the feedback of a vendor if you're concerned. I've gotten many things on there for my cars that I wouldn't have found in a million years of attending swap meets and car shows or posting on "parts wanted" sections on forums like this. Sometimes stuff appears on there that you'll never see anywhere else.
If you haven't been there lately, they've got a lot more seller AND buyer protections in place so that you won't lose your money if something does go bad.
My recommendation is to suck it up and get back on ebay and start getting those parts you need.
