1955 Oldsmobile rims:
I need two good stock steel 1955 Olds rims. Must have notches for 55 Olds hub caps at valve stem area. Two of my rims were ruined by Firestone dealer after I told them the left hand side of the car used left hand threads of the wheel studs. Told two people before they worked on the tires, but neither listened to me and ruined my rims. Lug nut holes are so large that new nuts bottom out on brake drums. Break away torque on bolts after I got the car home was 175 Ft. Lbs. Studs, nuts, and rims are ruined. If anyone knows where I could get new inner inserts to rivet inside my outers, please let me know. Dealer says he will pay for damage. Can't drive car the way it is.

Ken, I've got some factory 1955 wheels but they have dead tires on them. I'd need to pull the tires and see if the bead area is good on them. If your still looking let me know and I'll have that done.

1955 wheels:
Yes, sounds good! I'm mostly interested in GOOD mounting holes. If I can get good nut seats, I can knock the rivets out and put the centers in my rims. Pictures of mounting holes would be good, if you can do that. I can't use what I have. Just to be sure: rims are 15" X 5 1/2" wide with 5" bolt centers./ Send pics to: 815kenneth@gmail.com
Thanks for looking.

I don't know anything about the 54's, but the 55's have an indentation by the valve stems that a similar spot on the hub cap fits into. Some of the hubcaps had a tendency to spin inside the rims and consequently fly off. I think the little groove thing was supposed to keep that from happening, maybe. Take a look at them and tell me what you think. I have read that the 56 rims are different, but don't know what the difference is. Maybe someone else does.
Here are some part numbers for wheels which may help identifying them:
5.803 WHEEL, CAR STEEL-PRIMED
1941 thru 1956" 15" x 5.50" 5 567705
1955 thru 1957 Heavy Duty* 15" x 5.50" 5 563976
1957& 1958 All 14’’ x 6.00" 5 569339
1959 thru 1961 14" x 6.00" 5 574576
1961 88 Heavy Duty 15" x 7.00" 5 583256
"NOTE - When ordering for cars with hub caps also order snap-in type hub cap clips - see Group 5.864.
*NOTE - When ordering this wheel the proper heavy duty bolts, nuts, heavy duty attaching parts and axle
shafts must also be used.
Looks like 1941 thru 1956 are the same, at least in the parts book.

If all else fails for you, you can send your wheels to Stockton Wheel in Stockton CA, and they can repair them to be "like new". I have a friend that has a 1939 LaSalle commercial chassis hearse, that had a rim fail on him. He hunted for months for a replacement, but none was available, since it was a lot heavier and different than a standard passenger car wheel. I recommended Stockton Wheel to him, and they were able to replace the wheel with a new wheel from parts that they made to duplicate the original. When you are out of choices, they are the one to go to for wheel repair. My friends words were " It took quite a while for them to replace it because it was a commercial rim, not standard as they were anticipating. When I received it is well done and in perfect alignment and at a reasonable price."

John,
I've looked at the pictures and it looks to me like they may be Pontiac rims. The Pontiac's are the same except for the area around the valve stem, which seems to look like a hump, sort of behind the stem, instead of something like a raised slot on both sides of the valve stem. I'll try to post pictures either on this site or with my gmail. A friend of mine has both types of rims to compare them, but he also only has rims to fit his cars. I will call Stockton Wheel today to see what they can do.

Hi Ken
Yes, if you'd consider used rims it would be good to post pictures of what yours looks like. These pictures may not be clear, but I have some of these on a 1954. Some have two bumps by the valve stem and three of them have a wide groove next to it. John
