Tedd, if you are in no hurry I probably have one of these. It may be a few days before I can find it but if I do it is yours for the freight.

Good man, I'll take it if you still have it. John (2 blu442) is looking also for one that he can't find also. I'll take which ever one finds it or both..... Tedd

There should be three varieties for 1955:

part 1995062 except Autronic Eye

part 1995063 (for D.C.) & 1995069 (for A.C.) with Autronic Eye

As you all know, the rheostat is the main reason most people replace the switch. If you end up with the one that Charlie found, it looks to have a very good rheostat. I was looking for one on ebay a couple of years ago and most of them had bunged up rheostats or the sellers were too dumb to even take a picture of the rheostat.

I can't see buy a shop picture but anybody think I could bypass the rheostat and solder a wire to the high side of the light switch so the dash lights would come on when the lights were pulled on?. Bad thought I really don't want to start Micky Mousing this car.yet... Tedd

Probably could if you don't need the dimmability.

The one on ebay is $90 brand new. Jeez, that seems cheap.

Tedd, if you figure out how to bypass the rheostat, please let us know. I would like to do that too.

Guys, I think all you have to do is provide 12 volts to one of the gray wires under the dash. These wires are the dash light circuit. You could probably use one of those little clip in connectors like they use to hook trailer lights up and run it to a power source. I am thinking you could run it to the wire for the actual headlights on the switch and the dash lights would come on with the headlights. It would be pretty simple and you would not be butchering up the wiring harness.

All you have to do is jumper the rheostat wires. Then they will come on full bright only when in the parking or headlight positions.

Well... I didn't think I had one Tedd but while moving some parts around I came across this today. You probably already picked one up but just in case you haven't I could send you this one to test and see if it works.
John

Tedd:

I got up in my attic yesterday and could not find the one I still think I have. It did tell me I need to clean my garage attic out. I am glad there are other possibilities. Good luck on this project.
