1100552 Delco Alternator - '71

May be looking to buy a nice Delco alternator core....looking for a stamping number of 1100552 and a date code prior April, 1971. Don't know the exact amperage for this stamping number. Pulley and fan not important....if they are on the alt that's fine, if not, no big deal either.

Internals don't really matter either, mainly concerned with finding the front and back case halves.

I will look in my stash also, but it may be a few weeks until I can. I'm not allowed to lift anything for a couple of more weeks. If you still need it please update the post in a couple of weeks.

This is on a 71 455. I am not a date code guy, tell me where to look for codes i will check. I have other alternators, but they are off mostly 74, & 75's. But who knows what was put on these cars before i got them.

Stellar - Please look and let me know when you get a chance.

Bigdooly - the stamping info is on the FRONT case half....just behind the "triangular" tab/extension on the alt case front half (where the adjusting bolt is) on the alt in your pic (upper R hand side of the pic). FWIW - that's an EXTERNALLY regulated alternator setup in your pic BUT you never know....maybe the front case half is from some other alternator. These case halves, many times, got substituted in on some other alternator when the cores went to the aftermarket auto parts store alt rebuilders....they weren't concerned with numbers as much as rebuilding and selling a good functioning unit.

Also - Bigdooly - you never know, if that alt case front half is stamped it may have some other desirable number on it so it's always worth checking to see.

Finally - occasionally you'll run across a front half with NOTHING stamped in it....probably some sort of Delco replacement part front half.

Thanks and still looking.

Bigdooly - Here's a pic ( a bit out of focus but it shows the location) showing where the stamping numbers/info are located on the front case.

Patton & John - I have a 1100569, also. Where is the date code/stamp on the alternator? Thanks.

Norm, in my picture its under the 1100. I believe this alternator has 8L13. Patton, you'll have to help with what year/month that key's out to as I'm having a brain fart!

I believe I found the date codes for the Delco Remy Alternators on another site i.e. 6D21 date = (1966, April 21)

Therefore, 1F30 = (1971, June 30)

EDIT: Which is quite interesting. The build date of my 1971 CS convertible is 07-71. This most likely is the original alternator and still works flawlessly.

Just remember to skip the letter "I" when interpreting date codes....GM did that to avoid mistaking the "I" for the number 1.

Norm - yours is likely a EXTERNALLY regulated alt as only the 442's (not sure on SX's) got the internally regulated unit. I'll even consider JUST THE FRONT CASE HALF (stamped 1100552) as I can find the other pieces I need here.

Still looking and thanks.

Patton - Thanks. Indeed, my 1100569 is externally regulated.

Alternators

These are the following alternators I have
none are what you're looking for
Just thought I'd share.
Closest is
1100140 37a
If30
1100927 37a
Lower #'s are illegible
Rest are 1102
1102549 61a
4h13
1102368 61a
3k22
1102495 55a
6417
1102844 63a
5c13
Now if some could tell me how to decifer these #'s
I'd appreciate it.
I'm not putting together a #'s correct car, my cars engine #'s are illegible, stamped over and I was under the impression it was changed as I was with the previous owner when she bought it in the early 90's, seller said it was changed. I've changed it again. I just would like to know how to read these #'s.
All of these alternators were functional most came off 74 & 75 Delta 88's.
I will likely keep the 63A or a 61A as I will be using an amount and aftermarket stereo in my car when its done.

Thanks Bigdooly - There's not much to decoding these. The 1100.... number is the PN/application number....you would need Assembly Manuals (Product Information Manual) to compare those numbers to. Maybe you could put each number into your search engine but typically that just results in a bunch of ads for new or rebuilt alternators instead of specific information.

The date codes are as follows (using your first alt in the list above as an example...the "1100140" unit:

>First number: This is the YEAR it was made. In your case it's a 1 and not a letter "I"...indicates 1971 build year.

>Second (a letter): This is the month....in your case a "F" which means the 6th month....June.

>Third (number or numbers): This is the day of the month...in your case the 30th day.

So....that one is a June 30, 1971 built alternator.

FROM HERE ON OUT....let's either start a SEPARATE THREAD or go to the PM system for any discussions other than someone who has the alt I'm looking for. Every time a new post appears on THIS thread it BUMPS the other ads down.
