Oldsmobile outside thermometer Cutlass 442 Hurst Olds

***SOLD***Oldsmobile accessory outside thermometer. It is used, but still in fairly good condition. The thermometer works thru out the range, but seems to read about 4 or 5 degrees high. There is a stress crack on the clear lens. No pitting on the chrome, but it has some shelf wear scratches. Includes the mounting bracket, but the black plastic gasket is lost. It should not be real hard to make a gasket.PM me if interested.

That is neat - never seen one before. What years were these offered?

What I want to know is where you'd mount it?

I believe it mounts on the door mirror or there abouts, I've only seen them on big cars. In fact, I think I've only seen one in person.

My '72 was ordered with it. From what I can tell Y71 outside temperature indicator was 1st offered in '72 and not sure about '73 or beyond.

I love these thermometers.

What's even cooler is how they were mounted inside the base of the LH side view mirrors on the full sized cars and they are illuminated via fiber optic! I have them on both of my Ninety Eights. The fiber optic feeds from a light on the dash so you can actually dim it too!

There were several versions of the Y71. The early ones were white numbers on black back, the next was black numbers on a white backing. I have 2 of the latter in NOS condition. What Joe said about the instructions - I also have those sheets, but I just photocopied the one I needed so the original sheets would stay intact.

There are pics of this on my 72 album.

Some versions of this thermometer were built into the big car mirrors.
