Very nice - even has rear fader. Wish I could afford that; I'll have to settle for rebuilding mine best I can.

BTW, I think ?? that would also be correct for 1970 as well so that could expand your market a bit.

 

Thanks, I know there has been discussion recently about the radio's and I still am not clear because I thought 1970 was a two-piece unit?
Once its in you cant tell anyway. I wasnt sure on value only that I know what I paid years ago and one on ebay in worse shape for more money.
These are getting harder to find and are not reproduced so I thought this was a fair price for someone looking to complete a resto?

 

I think you are correct on the 2 piece unit for 1970.

 

I looked in the AM and you're right that the 70 had 2 pieces for stereo - a radio and a multiplex. But for the hassle of a simple install my money would be on the convenience of a one piece with integrated circuitry - unlike the bulky multiplex. I had one of those and IMO it's just an extra thing I didn't really want to deal with.

If I was able to afford a really good restored AM/FM Stereo with fader I'd be making an offer via PM. FWIW I think you're really close to what a serious restorer would pay given the current market. I know these are getting more rare and do hope you can get what you're asking. If it doesn't sell, I'll sure keep this thread subscribed.

Sounds great. I bench tested to make sure everything worked and there was no static. I cleaned the tuner just to make sure and it really sounds good. A real nice piece.

 

What I was referring to was, how do these old radios sound in comparison to a newer radio? Please understand, I am not crazy, I know older technology isn't going to be superior to today's modern electronics. Here's my example, I have an old Jukebox and it sounds good but lacks stereo. So it sounds good only with mono records, and mostly country, like Johnny Cash, Buck Owens. 80's rock sounds awful on my Jukebox. So, with that in mind, is it enjoyable to listen to? In your opinion. It's not the stereo that makes the difference; it's the speakers. My 1972 AM/FM Stereo sounds pretty much like any other stereo in a car with ordinary speakers. It's way clearer on FM channels.

The 72 AM/FM doesn't have the same flexibility compared to most new cars where you can set treble/base/balance independently. But it still sounds really good!

My wife's Saturn has an AM/FM Stereo with CD and graphic equalizer built in. You can play with it and fine tune the sound you want a lot but I find that once it's set for what she wants, no one really fiddles with it.

IMO the biggest deal with car stereos depends on how dedicated an audiophile you are, your hearing range, and how much time you spend in the car.

it is 71/72 but as Allan said it will work for 70, you can't see the multiplexer anyway. These things sound ok but really nothing beats a modern sound system. Again though, as Allan states the speakers help a lot. You don't buy one of these units for the audiophile in you you buy it because its correct and works. Although the price may seem high to some for a mint radio that works it is a fair price - heck 5 years ago you'd pay that much for a mint looking radio that didn't work.

 

Will buy for $300 if interested.
