Replated bumpers, testing the water

Hi Everybody

Well, many of you know that the list of cars under my name are all project cars. Over the past couple months I've been talking with a chrome shop in LA about plating some bumpers for me. I was hoping to trade extra core bumpers toward replated ones for my projects. The amount they were willing to credit me for the cores wasn't as much as I'd hoped, so I asked if they'd give a quantity discount. Yes, If I had 20 or more bumpers plated they would give me a good discount. So now I'm wondering if I could sell the extra replated bumpers to you guys. The replating shop is called "the Bumper Shop Inc." and their web site is named www.thebumpershop.com They would provide a 2 year warranty on the exterior chrome and yes they told me it would transfer if I sold the bumper, but the clock starts counting down from the date I receive it from them. Several local friends have had bumpers done and the ones I've seen are nice for a driver but may not be show quality, that's subjective so I'd not want to promise that. The company will redo anything that comes out with bad problems. Here's what I've come up with so far. Greyhound bus lines would charge about $75-85 to ship a bumper anywhere in the lower 48 states. They will only insure it for $300 though. If I could get the total costs down to $425 for purchase and shipping to the bus station of your choice would anybody be interested? I've got several extra cores of the 1970-72 Cutlass, then at least one each front and back of 1964-69 Cutlass except for the 1966. Then I have two 1966-67 Toronado rear bumpers, one 1970-72 Cutlass Wagon or Vista Cruiser rear bumper with the double action tail gate and one 1968 Delta 88 rear bumper that may not be salvageable, I'd need to talk with them about it. So.... would this work for anybody? I'm still doing research on the idea but please let me know if this would be worthwhile for you. John

I was planning on having my original rear bumper straightened and plated this winter if Santa is nice and I make it that far, knock on wood. The bumper is really clean but has a few bonks and scrapes. The one on there now is a ten footer that was replated years ago and isn't worth plating again, got burned on that deal.
If the wagon one you have is a good clean core I may be interested, do you have the chrome hinge/step piece too?
That step thing would probably cost a good buck to plate too, ain't nothing cheap, but nothing worth it ever was.

I might be interested in a deal of this sort.

I would need a 71-72 A body front bumper.

With Greyhound...would the person picking it up have to be there when the bus arrives or can they show up at the terminal any time and pick it up?

WTony, sorry, I've taken apart a lot of Cutlass's but not dismantled any 442's.

Bluevista, the bumper has extra holes for a trailer hitch that would need to be welded up. I believe it's straight, little or no rust on the front but the chrome is peeling on the backside. Yes I do have the step and would hope (?) it wouldn't be too much more to replate it.

w-30dreaming, the package would be shipped to the bus station with your phone number on it. When it arrive at the bus station they'd give you a phone call and you would have a few days (don't remember just how many) to go and pick it up before they got cranky about storing it.

Do you have anything for 66? Wasn't sure if you had nothing or one or the other front or rear from your post.

TripDeuces, sorry, I've got every year between 1964-72 except the 1966. I've only had one parts car of that year and the previous owner kept the bumpers. John
