Bucket Seat Headrest Pair - Dark Red and very nice - '69
Here's a pair of very nice bucket seat headrests from a '69 car. Dark red in color (they had black vinyl paint on them and I removed it).
>Very nice overall condition - no cracks, tears, gouges, etc. The vinyl "grain" is very nice
>Chrome headrest posts are real nice - ONE side of one headrest has some light "frosting"/rust spots on the upper part of ONE post but the chrome is shiny, etc and the other posts are nice and shiny chrome
>Date stamped 1 13 69 and they have in the lock notches (on the chrome posts) on the INSIDE of the posts (correct for '69). They can still be used on a '70-72 bucket.
>Underside filler panels are there - they could use a coat of vinyl paint and there is one tear and some deformation at one of the chrome post holes on one filler panel (see pic). VERY NICE/correct repro underside filler panels are available from the repro vendors (in black or white - paint to match) if you need a show quality set.
>There is some slight "streaking" on the front of one headrest (see third from the last pic) - the vinyl is not quite as shiny in those areas. The vinyl, however, IS NOT dried out, etc. and the grain in the streaked areas is just as good as the rest of the grain.
>Use "as is" for a driver or clean once and spray with one or two coats of whichever color you need for a show quality look. These came off a pair of buckets from the northern US.
>If you've ever experienced the "disaster" of the repro bucket seat headrests you'll save yourself a lot of headaches with this pair of very nice originals.
Yes they are. Anyone who knows anything about the terrible quality of the repro headrests would realize the value of real nice originals. Good chance you would have to paint/dye repros (since they only come in black) and then the paint won't stick well....no matter how well you prep them. Not to mention the pinholes in the surface of the repros and the crude way they trim the "bead" that runs side-to-side on the repros.
Since I advertised these I have acquired another set of A-body buckets that don't have good headrests so this pair will work with those buckets if the headrests don't sell.
