What is meant by "72 W30 heads"?

Does this mean they -could be- correct for a '72 W30... after one puts the bigger valves in and then because they have the right Ga casting ID they would be right... or does it mean they came from an actual factory '72 W30 and have factory issue 2.07" intakes?

It's just that real '72 Ga castings with big valves are so rare that I have never seen one in person unless perhaps on the engine at a car show. And I live IN LANSING.

Oh nice pix
It appears the Ga is missing. That's not good.

It also appears they have 2.07 valves [hard to tell from here] and have been surfaced a bit. So, maybe they are factory issue '72 W30 heads?

Guys on here could probably answer that better than me. I don't do much of the 72 stuff. To my knowledge bigger valve units were used only for W30 and MT packages. Could possibly have been used on others.

the man I bought them from told me that the Ga had been ground off some years back. (For what reason I don't know! Not smart!) it is possible that they are 71 G heads but he insisted that they were G heads with a smaller A on them. I'll let you be the judge. I don't want to mislead anyone so I have changed the listing so that there isn't any confusion about it.

I'm pretty sure that -only- W30's got big valve heads in 1972

Joe will know...

It is hella rare to see 2.072" G ==> A

I will have to measure those valves one day, who knows when.
They are waiting for me at my brother in law's house in Amarillo.
Instead of rebuilding the E's for the 70 442 project, I will use these.

Anyone know what the original application for these heads are from the #'s posted
in the pictures?

Ga was the only head put on Oldsmobiles in 1972. Toros and 4 speed 442s, W30 442s received larger diameter valves most of the time or were supposed to receive them. G heads went on 71 455s. '71 W30 442s received H castings.
