TorqStorm now offers a supercharger kit for Oldsmobile. Normal gains of 100-150 RWHP with only 5-6 pounds of boost. We have not tested one on and Olds motor yet so we would like to work out a deal with someone. PM me or call Rick at 616-706-5580

Looks nice. Too bad it won't work with factory A/C. (Sorry, I'm a wuss.) Just a thought - if it were moved to the driver side, the alternator can be moved to the lower passenger side and leave room for the A/C compressor.

 

That would look good on a Land Yacht!

 

We are working on a twin supercharger kit so we might have a bracket for the drivers side which will force us to move the alternator to the lower pass side. It w ill take a little time to get to it.

 

Good engineering practice places the idler on the slack side of the belt, not the power side.

I take it you have to have somewhat higher fuel pressure to push fuel in against the boost pressure that the carb is subject to?

Unfortunately, bad engineering practice puts the air filter directly above the exhaust manifold. Considering that the supercharger already heats the inlet charge, this isn't your best choice. Yeah, it can be rerouted...

 

Oh Joe, there's no need to be snarky. That pic is just for illustration purposes. Nevertheless, that's a good point - For production there is probably a better location for the air filter, or at least put a heat shield underneath it. Given that this won't sell in huge numbers, it may not be cost effective to make application-specific intakes, but perhaps they could offer an add-on kit to build a custom intake tube.

ScottoW31 - That sounds super cool. These things take time. So is 5-6 PSI pretty much the max this unit can make on a 455?

Yes, to keep the cost down on these kits we have the air filter on the charger. You can re-route if you would like but once you are moving your underhood temp goes down. Some people re-route, some add intercoolers and some add meth injection. There are kits from the other companies that do the same with the filter. It is all in what you can afford and see if it is necessary.

Yes you would need to increase your fuel pressure to push in against boost pressure. You will probably need to go to an electric pump if you do not have one already.

 

I know I'm digging this up from September, but I saw the thread referenced from ROP.

A boost referenced regulator with an electric pump would be the way to go. I have a GN tank in my '88 H/O with a Walbro in tank pump. This looks like a sweet setup. Did the testing ever happen on the above poster's 455?

We sent a charger kit out for an Olds but he is having a few set backs. He broke his foot and has not been able to work on it. Hopefully he gets better and get that kit installed so we can see what it will do on an Oldsmobile. Check out the Street Rodder Road Tour car. It is a Ford but rather impressive numbers for twins. 790 HP @ 15 PSI at only 6000 RPM with twin TorqStorm Superchargers.

I am the guy. This unit is getting installed this year for this racing season. Had some minor personal set-backs and was dragging my feet. Rick, Scott and TorqStorm have their act together on these units. They are awesome looking pieces. The performance on other engines and cars can be found on You Tube, I believe. I still need to get the MSD 6-BTM ignition in order for the setup to be correct. Will be reporting my progress.
