Smile Oldsmobile EXPERIMENTAL 455 Intake

If you haven't seen this on evilbay yet take a look http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=360096181884 . It's not mine (wish it was).
Wonder what it'll go for. Haven't posted much so here's some pics of what I've been working on for the last 7(OH MY GOD) years. Started off like gang busters but then the fourth kid showed up. The garage got a little more disorganized in the meantime but the car hasn't gone any further. One of these days I'll give myself a good kick in the *** and finish her. 72 Cutlass S original 350/2bbl, bench seat, column shift. When she's done she'll be sport'n a 455/th400, buckets, console and a lot of blood, sweat and tears. By the way, ALL the work that was done I did myself with the help of my oldest son and father-in-law.

It is always nice to have a little help. Especially if it is "Family Style." A phrase we coined here in Texas after Jimmy and Steve Ray Vaughn.

Nice job, post more photos when it is done.

11 thousand samolians for an intake? Way outta my league. And the aluminum one he had listed ended at 7,600.00 and the reserve wasn't met. I would imagine his reserve on that was the same as his reserve on the cast iron intake. I realize that these intakes are few and far between but I can't wait to see what the final price is. Don't know about anybody else, but I'd have a hard time hiding that purchase from the wife. And I consider her a reasonable woman! Oh well, someones retirement fund is looking a little healthier. Just goes to show that old car parts can be more valuable than investing in the stock market!!!

Right now it sure does, but I'm still sinking everything we don't absolutely need into it Always buy when it's on sale Back on point, For my money, I think I'll just go down to the local edelbrock shop.

I think we need to buy to of each. That way you can take a dump in one and use the other to cover it up with when you throw the trash out

Bid or even sale numbers on ebay are meaningless unless cash actually changes hands. Just because nameless bidders run an auction up to below the reserve does NOT mean that someone will actually pay that amount. Even a "sale" on ebay is meaningless without an actual exchange of cash. Many, many times, I see high dollar cars that are "sold", only to reappear a couple of weeks later because the buyer flaked out.

I agree with Joe. It's not at all unusual to see cars relisted several times on E-Bay. So obviously many of the "transactions" are never completed.

Boy,I'm glad I pissed away my spare cash on ex wives and whiskey.

I mean I love Oldsmobiles but Geeeez Lousie.

Exactly.

This auction stuff kinda got me wondering. Says that these were "experimental" intakes. One offs. Soooo, how come that's how they stayed? If they worked well don't you think they would have become production? Nothing in the auction says anything about functionality. Maybe I'm being to cynical.

What's also AMAZING is that they are actually NOT misrepresented. So buyer beware - you could be getting exactly what J-Chicago suggests, they could be cast off junk. If these were still on the car, why wouldn't the whole car be listed since it would probably have lots of other experimental stuff on it. Me thinks its a ploy to encourage a bidding war. And since I'm still working on marriage number 1, I obviously have the money to buy them if I want (kidding).

Anyway, it never ceases to amaze me what shows up on evilbay.
