X2. Troy makes the best (and GM licensed) reproductions bar-none, but is straight up enough to never claim them as OE.

thanks

Thanks for posting this. This is everything I need to replace the missing parts on my W-31 car. Even the date codes are close enough.

I am currently the high bidder & watching & will snipe bid at the end if the price is reasonable.

OAI Air Cleaners

I have seen different textures also on various tops, some appear to have fibre's in the plastic. Troy is a good guy, and knows his stuff so if he says its OEM it is. Just my 2 cents.

I am the one indeed. Rest assured if I win the auction the set up is going to a good home.

I will pay fair market value plus shipping but not stupid money. When I bought my W-31 last year the car had its original drivetrain but the intake, air cleaner & carb were missing. I have recently secured the intake manifold & would love to have the OAI set up to put back on the car. The car runs awesome with the holley on it so finding the correct 1970 Rochester is less of a priority for me.

Fingers crossed.

There are 6 days to go on this.. I wonder how much it will go for. The 442 I bought came with a brand new reproduction one and it is good enough for me.

Good luck on the auction Dave. I just have a feeling it WILL go for stupid money because of what it is and who's selling it. No competition from me on this.

Do you mean model year or calendar year?

You know it is.

All of those parts were modified, lost or discarded from my W-31 car over the years. Looking to re-aquire the missing items & will to pay fair market value plus insured shipping.

The nos one I've had, and have, do not look like the repros. I believe the plastic composition and plastic injection process was different back in the day, which gives the originals a different look and wear pattern.

But, I could be 100% wrong.
Originals have a metal bar going through the hinge, repops are a pure plastic hinge. That is how i tell the difference between repop and original for the tops.

Sicky, that's how I tell them apart, but did someone begin using a metal rod in the repops recently?

I noticed that too. Thepartsplace's air cleaner seems like it has a rod going through it. They also charge NOS prices for the setup (600 on ebay for the whole set, base and top.)

Sad part was i gave my cleaner to a friend of mine that was in really good shape, but this was before i bought the Rallye, i went to ask for it back but he sold it for 100 bucks.... Now i have a repop on mine....

Sigh, I remember my first OAI unit I had on a 70 Rallye 350 car. First thing I did was rip that yellow foam (that was in pretty good condition) off the adapter and get that good, grey OE correct foam and glue it on....

Seriously, why has someone not repo'ed the yellow stuff yet? Compared to the other things that have been developed, you would think it would be pretty easy to do.

I thought the yellow was just from the foam over time did that?

I'm sure Thortons is what he says, since he's the expert on the subject.

I must be missing something? Are you talking about the OAI top and flapper? I have never seen an original with a metal bar in the hinge.

You were misinformed. Originals are all plastic hinged.

Anyone know this seller

Anyone know this seller? He has TWO OAI set ups, a W-30 intake & two W-30 carbs for sale.

Looks like he does not ship to Canada so I will focus on the Troy Thornton set up (I am still high bidder).

I'd consider buying one but I'm guessing that the base would have to be clearanced when using with HEI, am I mistaken? - Steven

The base has to be cut to work with HEI. You could always go back to the original with a new pertronix system.

Looks like the price of these went back up a little from the first one posted. I picked up a nice complete OEM one about 3 years ago for $450 off ebay.
