Reproduction 69 H/O Ram Air air cleaners now available
Using the 70 OAI lid for now. Not original to 69 and not shaped the same either. It will work but must be installed up-side-down. Im currently working on getting a correct 69 HO lid made. Will let you know when its ready, but will probably take some time though.
Product looks great...however, they were NEVER black when new. They were grey phosphate plated....like hood hinges, etc. They would look more original painted with something like Eastwoods Spray Gray...which is supposed to give cast iron look...but looks very similar to the phosphate plating when applied to slick sufaces.
Hey thanks for the compliment.
Actually, Iv seen them both black and the grey color you spoke of and have photo's of them both ways. The main reason Im doing them black is because Iv had several people with original cars tell me they did come BOTH ways. ? I dont know, I wasnt there when they were built. Black just looks nicer to me and is easier for me to do.
These pieces are paintable with a quick scuff and shoot.
If someone prefers one delivered in the phosphate color Id be happy to shoot it that color for you instead.

They were phosphate because the vendor that made them didn't have a paint line. Some owners didn't like that look and painted them when the cars were new. I have seen NOS ones in the box as well as many unrestored cars and they were phosphated. Like I said, some got painted black or other colors early on...but weren't born that way. Concours car owners get them re-phosphated...which is high maintenance because it rusts easily. Thanks again for finally reproducing this item! Kurt Karch, '69 Advisor, Hurst Olds Club of America
Where can I get a sample color? This way I can have it matched in RM Diamont and if anyone wanted one in phosphate I'll be ready.
Actually, isnt that plating kind of rough to the touch? Not really smooth like paint is either? Wondering if there's a way to duplicate that.

I thought about doing a couple in cast blast but it only being a rattle can, I figured they might not hold up as well as the good catalyized paint would.

The scoops are reproduced and can be purchased through Fusick, Year One, or The Parts Place I think? But, the hole thats supposed to be in the hood for the HO scoop is a smaller square, not big enough for an air cleaner to fit into it.
