HAHAHA.... at least restamp all the numbers so it does not look like fresh stamping on only 3 of the numbers.

 

i asked him if this was original or restamped and he told me original. Can you believe that?

 

Remember, he makes his living off of stupid or ignorant people, and the dumber the better.
Every time that he has to sell the carb, then take it back is an expensive PIA for him, so he wants someone who won't recognize the blatantly obvious and will keep it and think it's great.

It's kind of like the Nigerian prince who's e-mailing you. After years and years of this, you'd have to be damned stupid to fall for that. Heck, it'd be easy to change just one or two details - make it a member of the deposed Bulgarian royal family and money they hid from the communists, for instance - but if they did that, they might ensnare some people who are slightly more intelligent than rocks, and, since they send out millions of e-mails, and get back thousands of responses, they want to make sure right off the bat that the people who respond are the dumbest of the dumb, so they're not completely wasting their time on targets who will figure it out before sending money.

Same thing here. His worst nightmare is hundreds of intelligent potential buyers all emailing him at once to ask questions about the carbs, and having to answer them all because he can't tell who's the real idiot.

So, if you want to really p__s him off, start sending him messages asking him questions as though you're really dumb, and ask him a lot of them...

Well, the 255 went for $455 and the 256 sold for $310. But looking at past sales a lot of his carbs went for less that $200 which isn't bad if they're quality rebuilds. So I think people are catching on. But in the 256 listing this time he said "Carburetor is an original equipment reproduction or OER unit." so he may be trying to prevent it coming back, but still not admit its a restamp. The 255 auction didn't have that statement in it.

 

I was the one that got the restamp w30 stick carb. I did get my money back on it but the best part was before it even shipped I emailed the seller and said please do not send even bother sending me the carb if its a restamp and waste everyones time because it will come back to u. The responce I got was "its an original carb not restamped. It looks better in person". What an f-in joke. So after waiting to get my money back I leftba negative feedback saying sellers beware these are restamped carbs not original as stated and the reply I got on the feedback was "you should ask questions before bidding it saves everyone the trouble". Oh man I never wanted to jump through a computer before and punch someone in the face like I did that second. Lol.

 

The worst thing is, the ___hole probably believes he's right.

I got one of his carbs. Checked it out, its warped, choke housing to carb plastic insert broken, pickup tube in air horn loose and smashed on end. The inlet threads (fuel) are damaged and the choke housing tube threads are damaged. I guess I'm one of the stupid ones the posts are talking about because I keep getting disappointed. Its a crap shoot. You don't know who to trust but have to try. Bought the car rebuilt only to rebuild again, bought two carbs from different sources that said rebuilt but....wait for it...need rebuilding again.The 704 part of the carb number looks slightly out of line from the rest of the number. probably re-stamped but I don't know for sure. I'm going to use it for parts because I paid 112.00 for it months ago.

I hear ya Gary. I made the move on the carb on a whim and was trusting it was real just as u did. Unfortunately I spent 510.00 on mine so I had absolutely no interest in keeping a fake carb for that price. At 112.00, still a lot of money to me, if you can use it its not the worst thing in the world but when you've have a slew of carbs that were messed up like you've had..... Then your probably upwards of where I was in the price and it def gets disappointing fast.

 

Honestly, the prices those carburetors were at should have given anyone a clue to their originality right away. Honest to goodness REAL GM carburetors will always bring the good $$$$ on an open auction any day of the year.

 

The first and second pics are of the carb # I got from this E-Bayer. I'm not sure it is re-stamped now because it shares the same traits as the next two from different sources. The carb is still in need of a rebuild but I don't want to do it till I am more confident its real. Any opinions out there. Thanks for the help.

 

it looks real to me. afaik, nobody has bothered to fake the generic '72 455 carbs. yet.
